Just go get some kitty litter and show kitty the litter box. It's instinct for cats to use the litter box. You may need to put her in it and scratch the litter with her paw to give her the idea. Did the people who had her keep her indoors or out? If she was in, she probably already knows. Good luck!

Unless its already trained to use a litter box with kitty litter, there shouldn't be a problem teaching it to go in shredded paper. Watch out though, because I've heard of at least one cat that was litter trained to go on papers, and people couldn't leave their newspaper laying around since he thought it was just a port-a-potty. ;)

I'm not sure I understand, are you saying the kitten is about 2-3 months old? How long have you had it? Because if you had it more than a day or two and you haven't seen it go, it probably HAS gone, just in your closet or some other hidden place. If it has gone on the carpet, make sure to clean it up really well and use a de-oderizer so it won't associate that place with "bathroom".

Here's a link with some tips on litter training: http://cats.about.com/cs/kittencare/ht/kittenlitterbox.htm

Just remember, cats don't like to go to the bathroom near their food (do you?) so place the box in a different room if possible from the food.

I would suggest getting some cat littler. You can get regular clay litter from the store which doesn't cost very much. Or you may prefer the clumping litter.

Usually a cat instictivly knows where to go. But, you can always pick it up and put it in the litter box. Let it smell around. Once it knows where the litter box is, it will go there.

Cats have a natural need to dig when they use the litter box. If you are only using shredded paper, your cat probably doesn't know what to do.

Try getting a second litter box with regular litter in it and let the kitty choose. I think this will solve your concerns.

I feel for ya, I took in a stray who was preggers and just finished weening 4 kittens. At 2-3 mo they don't use the litter box like you would expect...most of their poopers are really 'squirts' (I know...oogey) and they are very small. I hate to tell you but check out every dark corner or nook and cranny before you take her to a vet...she may have left you a surprise. Otherwise, just make sure she knows where it is and that the box is kept clean and away from anything that might spook her...

When I was a kid myself, when I watched my cat raise her kittens, she would first feed them, then she would massage each of their tummies with her rough tongue. Then, they would go potty. I once was given a kitten who was no longer wanted, too. It had been using thier bed instead of its litter box, I think because their little girl had full access to the kitten at all times. They do need to feel secure in order to go potty, as it is a very vulnerable position to be in. I recalled what my mama cat had done for her younger kittens, and right after feeding this kitten, I gently massaged his abdomen for a minute or so, then I placed him in the litter box. If he started to climb out, I massaged him a bit more, then put him back in the box. Each time --eventually-- he relieved himself in the litterbox. After a few days, he was using the litter box without the massaging. (I may have also moved his paws for him to show him to dig a low spot to aim at, first.) I suspect that this will work for you, too.

Try putting litter or sand in the litter box. Cats will go where they feel they can. Paper will encourage her to go on tablets...etc. What were you thinking? Dont feel bad, giver her a good home iwht pleanty of food, water and fresh litter.

Just get some cat litter. Most cats hate using shredded paper.

start by leaving her in the litter box area daily, so she'll learn where it is, and make sure you put some litter in it, trust me you dont want newspaper instead, she'll finally learn, also remember that she is a little young, and they dont pee as much when they're that age

i have nine cats, all from when they were kittens, trust me
