My kids are 6, 5, and 3 and they all go to bed at 8:30pm no matter what. We have a schedule. We started this when the oldest was 2 and the middle son was 1. It was hard at first but we survived.

My two oldest are 18&17 so they don't really have a bedtime. the younger five are like a bag of cats without their sleep so we start to out them down pretty early in my house.
17month old in asleep by seven, all kids in pajamas, teeth brushed etc. by 7.30pm
3yr old&5yr old go to bed at 7 lights out at 7.30pm
12yr old in bed by 8pm lights out at 8.30pm
14yr old in bed by 8.45pm lights out at 9.15pm.
All are up between 6 and 6.30am well rested and ready for the day.

My son (22 months) goes to bed at or around 8 every night. There are exceptions, but for the most part we try to keep it consistent.
