I need help. My 13 month old is allergic to something, but I dont know what. He has a nasty rash all over his body, worse on the face. It wont go away! This has happened before when he was about 6 months old, he had (or atleast I was pretty sure he had) an allergic reaction to the laundry detergent (sorry spelling). Well, we changed the detergent and it went away.....fast forward to now....my husband did laundry (never ask a husband to do laundry) and he bought the same detergent! I am in the process of rewashing everything I own, but this rash will not budge....I dont know what to do....I have tried everything and it wont go away....I feel like a horrible mother and I feel like I failed him. It's so hopeless and I cry all the time. What am I doing wrong? What can I do to make this right? It looks so bad, and so itchy and painful.....also....what about exema? Some of my husbands family members have exema....does it pass on....? Please people, be nice....and please help...

The best answers you can get are from you family doctor. If you have a pediatrician and consider this problem with allergy to be an emergency, you can phone to ask what to do now about your child. Chances are he can give you a stopgap measure until you can come in the next day. Only a doctor should prescribe remedies, not someone on line, unless he/she happens to be a doctor or nurse assistant with medical knowledge to prescribe medicine.

A child as young as yours is hard to get to the root of causes of allergies, it would seem to me. Mostly they can only cry and whine, and unless there is redness or rash, as you mention, can't help you pinpoint the problem. With such a bad rash, though, it could be that he got into something quite toxic. It may be the best course to take him to the emergency room to check to see if your child's had contact with a poison. It may be best to be safe than find out later that's what it was. Try to get your doctor first.

Whether eczema is hereditary or not I don't know. It's possible, I think, since my father suffered from it and so do I; neither of us too badly. Something to think about and learn how to avoid it with your child.

I am allergic to Laundry soap and I have to rinse my clothes twice to get all the soap out of them.
Now if he has a food allergy... which I also have.. take him off all the food he is on now take him back to the basic baby food.. and one week add one new food slowly bring him up to where he is now. This is the same thing my mother was told with me and I was told with my sons food allergies and soap allergies run in our family. I am allergic to milk, citrus acid, soaps, Cinnamon, pepperoni, peppermint, perfumes, colognes, etc... there are too many to list but this will give you an ideal of the allergies that I am aware of how to handle.

Clear Calamine lotion and benydrl are two of my best friends. Oatmeal baths are nice to take the Itch away quickly and then spread Calamine on and take a benydrl

I would still have him checked by a doctor. You never know what it could really be.

You have not failed your son, I know it is not easy to see him this way but it is just a way of life and you are doing the right things.
Asking questions and getting answers you are showing your concern.

I wish you the best of luck with him.

take him to the doctor and put ice packs where the rash is so that it doesnt itch as much, also try this hispanic cream that my mom uses on me called ARNICA you can find it at walgreens for less than 5 bux .when he is a little bit older, take him to an allerigist and they will give him a test to see what excatly he is allergic to.When i was younger my mom took me to an allergist and they gave me 40 shots of things and it turned out i was allergic to grass pollen & dust.they put me on a treat meant for about 3 years of shots and they didnt hurt at all and now i dont get allergic reactions . hope this helps

ask your doctor about benadryl for kids it a allergy medicine used for hey fever and stuff but helps with all kinds of allergies! my daughter had a reaction to softener and the doctor told me i could give her some benadryl it may make him sleepy but after two days the whole rash was gone she was around his age when this happened so he can take it and the doctor can tell you how much if it does not list his weight on the bottle!

That's quite a high possibility. He may have a intolerance to lactose or lactose based products. The best thing to determine whether or not he is lactose intolerant is to pay a visit to a general doctor or paediatrician who will run some small tests and this will tell you what he can and can't consume.

Take him to a doctor. They will be able to tell what is really going on. Also while there ask about allergy tests just to see what he is alergic to. If it's happened before then this is the real time to see a doctor. Hope all goes well!

Use some benadryl for the itchiness. Also.. yes eczema can pass on from generations. My son and my daughter both have it. As does their paternal grandfather. Good luck. You obviously care and that makes you a good mommy. Ask your son. If he smiles then you know your doing OK.

give him some benedryl. for now. if it doesnt go away see a dr.
i also heard that if your baby gets an allergic reaction before they are a year old, it will be apart of them forever.
