Ok, if you want to just highlight your hair they sell a highlighter kit and yes, it works and has the instructions in the box. There are several and they are all a little different. One has a hat with holes that you pull the hair through and you control the amount of highlight by the amount of holes you use. You need help with this one and it is a little difficult to use the plastic hook they give you. I use a metal one sold at the craft dept for crocheting, metal...easier to grab the hair. They sell another one a kit that has a hard plastic small odd brush thing with it. I like this one too. It helps to have someone help. Especially to judge the amount and the back and sides are hard to do by your self. They have instructions there too. Now that highluights your hair. You leave it on for the most light effect, it lifts the color out. Follow and finish as directed on the box. Then if you want the highlight to be a color you put the color on the highlighted part of the hair, like red or even darker blonde but most people just want the light blonde highlights and that is the easiest to do at home. You can then use a blonde shampoo every few weeks to keep it bright, it keeps the orange tone down and the brightness in, then use good conditioner in between, the blonde shampoo is harsh and drying. So, that is how I do it. Now if I want my hair all one color, blonde and it is brown, I lift all the color out with the kit. then I add the color I want to it after, then use a good conditioner and when it starts to grow out and I want to change it I put a color close to my own color on. It's fun, just do it. You can get advice from the company, they all put their #'s on the boxes. Good luck. Have fun. don't worry it's only hair and it can be fixed.

I know exactly what you need to do. First you have to go to sally beauty. You need Wellite, it's in a blue-green box with two application, the instructions are printed on the inside of the box. You will also need a level 40 developer. The last thing you will need is a toner and Clairol Crème Toner is the best the color you want is Blonde and Extra Light Platinum. Make sure you pick up rubber glove and an applicator bottle. I've done this myself once and these were my results: http://i11.tinypic.com/2zeigyt.jpg
Make sure you use both applications of Wellite and pick up a really good conditioner b/c your hair will be really dry.

I AM A HAIRDRESSER OF THIRTY YEARS SO CLAIROL MAXI BLONDE MIGHT WORK AS WELL BUT I HAVEN'T EVER USED IT THATS WHY I CAN'T TELL U HOW TO,, BUT I DO KNOW THAT U HAVE TO BLEACH YOUR HAIR FIRST THEN PUT A TONER (THATS TONER) NOT COLOR ON IT AFTER IT IS BLEACHED, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE
SO I CANT TELL U THAT THOSE HOME PRODUCTS WILL WORK THAT'S WHY WE HAVE A "LICENSE" AND THE PUBLIC DOESN'T

First off DONT do it at home!!! it only turns out bad, i see to many people come in with orange hair, pink hair, calico hair or broken off hair when they do it at home! there are plenty of salons that do it pretty cheap....your gonna have to end up paying more in the end if you do it at home....a color fix is more expensive then just comeing in and getting a color

doing hair color your self can be very risky, b/c its very unpredictable,( possible go to a cosmo school and get it done, you pay for the product there and that's all, and teachers watch students and they are nice places to get things done ) lighting hair involves bleaching the hair, when its on your hair, and if its orange you need to leave the bleach on longer to get it out of that stage of color. but don't go to a white blonde, that is very bad for your hair, a pale yellow is the lightest a person should go w/o "killing" there hair,
by the way
i go to cosmetology school so i know what i am talking about

It depends on what color your hair is now. I think if you buy highlighting stuff rather than just hair color it makes your hair a white blonde color opposed to orange which will happen if you just use hair color.
