There are obvious benefits I suppose like being stronger and increasing longevity due to your body being able to handle more for longer. I'm a male, 5'9", 180 lbs. and 35 yrs. old. Can you shed a bigger light on the issue?

your overal body function responds well to cardiac activity. if you are already healthy it is just another way to protect your body from problems resulting from excess body fat and/or poor eating habits. you can build muscle which is great looking and increases your metabolism. you can also avoid future injury from falls, etc by being more aware of your body and strengthening your muscles. you should try yoga if you are looking for some great health benefits resulting from an exercise routine. yoga can be really challenging and can build your muscles while toning and stretching your total body. it keeps your spine flexible which makes aging an easier process with fewer injury and discomfort.

For the body to maintain muscle mass it must burn more calories even at rest so the more muscle you have the more calories you burn even when you are sedentary. Burning calories also translates in to weight/fat loss which has numerous health advantages. When trying to lose weight or keep weight off many people start to see muscle tissue wasting away. By building your muscles, you reduce your chance of muscle wasting and calories burned come from fat and not muscle tissue. Weight training also builds bone mass and protects you from bone degeneration further down the road.
