I consider myself to be a very healthy woman. 5'4 119 lbs. I work out 5 days a week and I eat pretty healthy or so I think.
I did a lot of research this past week because as usual my New Years resolution is to be healthy. Anyhow I looked up what foods are healthy and lately it seems like people should turn vegetarian. I grew up in an Italian-American household and believe me my family is faaarrr from being vegetarian.
However, found that there are sooo many websites that say milk is so bad for you and that it can even GIVE you osteoperosis which I thought was pretty ironic and strange. I actually drink a lot of skim milk should I switch to Soy..or is that bad for you too..because I read that could be dangerous also.
Next is red meat, I consume it in very small amounts once a week..am I really killing myself by doing this like so many of the websites state.
Basically what I want to know is what is the absolute most healthy diet that you can follow without dying.

i am a vegetarian and i come from an italian american family, too. those websites are not true (they say these types of things to push people to become a vegetarian), while i think that being a vegetarian is a great way to speak up for animal rights, i do not push my beliefs. the milk thing 100% not true, however large amounts of red meat can be bad, but by what you say, you should be fine... good luck, and remember, ultimately it is your decision

I am a vegetarian and I try to stay away from dairy products for the very reason you mentioned. I have been a vegetarian for 3 years. I find that I feel the best I have ever felt in my life, the only thing is, you really have to use your imagination so you don't keep eating the same boring meals. There are websites that have a lot of recipes on them that have proven helpful. I also take quite a few vitamin supplements just to make sure I'm not missing anything. Your doctor will tell you what will be the most useful for you. I drink Soy Milk and I love it, it does take some getting used to but start with chocolate flavored or something and it might be easier, just don't expect it to taste like milk. Hopefully this helps

Don't beleive everything you read on the internet. Me 2, my family is sooo far from being vegetarian and I have already decided to become a vegetarian once I move out. I consume very little red meat as well every 2-3 days. As for milk, you need the calcium, I also drink Skim but it annoys me that there is still colesterol.
The most heathly diet you could follow is to become vegan, and eat minimal amounts of food.

Look, if it is popular , usually it is untrue when it comes to diet.
Meats are good for you and so is milk.
All this crap is a money racket.
Look at your ancestors, they ate meats, milked the cows, eat chickens, they stayed pretty healthy off the farm.
Its not exactly what u eat, it is the vitamin in the foods u eat.
If u fill up on junk , make sure u take vitamins to put in the body.
Meats give u healthy blood and energy.
Milk makes strong bones and teeth.
Dont believe all the nutritional crap u read, follow your instincts.
Most healthy foods are in the produce of the grocery stores.
B foods for the brain....like bananas, blueberries,etc.
C foods for healthy cells...like celery, cabbage etc.
Just go with your instincts

You have to be careful, the internet is a good resource however the websites often give out incorrect info. NIH.gov is an excellent website it is the national institute of health and it is for the public and has loads of info on all the things you mention. My grandmother has osteoporosis and sees one of the leading rheumatologist in Michigan at Beaumont Hospital. We have been given a wealth of facts and treatments and underlying causes and I have never heard that milk is one of them. I am a nursing student and I can tell you that knowledge is power. Your first resource should be a medical doctor if you are nontraditional choose a highly recommended licensed homeopathic doctor; they are really well versed in leading healthy vegetarian lifestyles. Whatever you decide, remember that not all info is good info. If you are healthy, physically fit and balanced (weight in proportion to height) you don't need a diet you just want a lifestyle change. Good Luck!!

You will probably get a ton of answers on this one. All these studies they due have to be taken with a grain of salt. The numbers of people are usually insignificant if you look at the big picture. Web sites often miss lead people, give false information just to sell a product. You have to be so careful.
Everything in moderation and within reason, is good. The fact you exercise 5 days a week is fantastic. You weight is ideal. Continue with what you've been doing.
Also don't smoke and make sure to drink 8 glasses of water a day.

I think you're OK. My son (almost 3) craves and asks for soy milk and I asked the doc and she says it's fine for him (and if you compare it to cow's milk has much more nutrients).
Red meat..............don't worry about it unless you've been diagnosed with high cholesterol.
It sounds like you are doing just fine with your diet and no reason to worry. If you are concerned, ask your doctor to do a "full lab panel" (blood/urine) on you.
I'd go with fish 3X a week (if you like it), as much soy as you can tolerate, like tofu on a salad with each meal, skim milk, or at least 1%, and maybe limit red meat to 1 or 2 times a week. Chicken is good with the SKIN REMOVED. Cook it with the skin on so it's not like a dry shoe, but remove the skin before eating. Also, if you want to invest in a juicing machine, you get a lot of nutrients from fresh veggie and fruit juice. There are some good juicing cookbooks out there, too. Try the Jack LaLaine one, for starters.

I speak from experience when I say a vegan diet is the healthiest diet for you. you have seen an elephant right? how big and strong it is? well the elephant is a vegan. You dont need to eat meat to be strong. meat is bad for you, Read The China Study by T. Collin Campbell. You will love this book and all it has to offer.

The best result I found for dieting, was to eat more but smaller amount and work out more. If you get a partner to do this with you, you will have better result.
