Salvation is a free gift from God, we cannot earn it. First we become righteous in His sight, because we believe what we heard. Then Gods Holy Spirit produces the good works that we desire, in us. We do not boast of these good works, rather, we give all glory and praise to God Almighty. Our good works and deeds are merely a spiritual barometer of our obedience to Christ Jesus. They are separate and apart from salvation.

i do not realize it both. I chalk it as a lot as be a boogeyman tale that some stupid childrens took way too heavily about 2000 years in the past, and regrettably we are stuck with this. @ Mort: No. no longer Hinduism. In Hinduism, one is judged by way of karma particularly than faith. In different words, an atheist and a Christian and an agnostic and a bisexual or some thing else all have an identical danger of going to heaven as every person else. i imagine an identical is real for Buddhism, yet i'm no longer particular.

Merit conveys an individual to the heaven worlds -- not just by doing "good" things necessarily.
As one learns and grows, and makes mistakes and develops and in turn applies this knowledge and experience, and then gives of this unconditionally in turn, spiritual merit increases.
However, 'careful about this thing "good." Good is but the opposite of bad: it is a designation of worlds of duality. The tru heavens share no qualities with duality.
Second, merit is a determinant between an individual and God Itself, and for what that individual needs and is contracted to need for both himself as well as the collective of all universes, heavens and worlds... Thus, all import, Life is a joint venture, see? All in Life are learning and ascending and growing. And heaven is always one more step above the heaven that came before... There exists no endings...
At the time of Jesus -- Jesus, who was a student under Zadok (Melchizedek) -- people were so encumbered by strike and strain and collectively were so considerably low in spiritual station due to fears and the iron hands of the Romans, that Jesus esteemed it best to develop, say, a spiritual device by which one would be afforded a spiritual focus and by means of using certain spiritual exercises; hence, the likes of which quotation you give above was a means to enable that focus and thus was given over to the people...but many did not quite understand what he was saying, and much was distorted by the many scribes of that time as well.
The problem that resulted in those times was and is, that reference or quotation you cite above is in reality an interpretation of an interpretation of an interpretation, for Jesus never intended anyone to use any personality or human focal point, much less his, as a gateway to God and Heaven: he knew that such was false. But the people of that time (not unlike those of today) were not spiritually mature to fully grasp the height of what was given over to them. Thus, mistakes were (and are still being) made.
He knew that only by one's own personal attainments and experience first hand and merit, and self-responsibility and intitatives, and that, which can only be known in the Heart, could that individual him- or herself arrive at the gates of the Heavens Worlds.

No you cannot earn your way into Heaven
Death is inevitable. The thief on the cross knew when his would occur, but we can not predict our own. After his death, the crucified criminal went to live in paradise with Jesus. Some of us will also live eternally in God's presence. But others will experience everlasting torment, forever separated from Him.
If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)
Become part of God's family today. Acknowledge your sinfulness, and express your faith in these words:
"God, I have sinned against You. (Romans 3:23) I've followed my own way and refused to give You the right to rule in my life. (Romans 3:10-12) I recognize I am separated from You and cannot rescue myself. I do believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son. I accept the truth of the Scriptures? that His death on the cross paid my sin-debt in full. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) And I ask You to forgive me of my sins. (1 John 1:9) By faith, I receive You, Lord Jesus, as my personal Savior from this moment on."
If you just spoke those words to God, then, like the thief on the cross, you have received salvation? a gift of God's grace. The heavenly Father welcomes every person who comes to Him through His Son, regardless of background, age, or current situation. Through Jesus, the right to enter paradise is yours!

Service to others is a side effect of being more evolved or enlightened as a human being. But service without wanting or needing something in return. You can interpret and debate the bible any way you wish. But finding your path to heaven depends on you and the choices you make.

I don't believe in Heaven or Jesus. But I do believe that only doing good things because you want to earn your ticket to Heaven is pretty damned selfish and not very charitable.

We are not saved through good works, but only by the grace of God. When He bought us through the death of His only Son, only then humans are allowed to be forgiven and attain salvation. When the Lord says I am the way, He is instructing us to follow His teachings, to live as a true Christian, so that we can be children of God and earned His mercy.
To submit ourselves wholeheartedly, especially our ego, to God To follow the Lord Jesus teachings and commandments, for the rest of our lives. It is not easy but not impossible.

I do not think that we go to heaven when we die..that wouldn't fit with the many scriptures that talk about the condition of the dead... Eccl.9:5; Ps.146:4; Eccl.9:6; Isa. 26:14
there are a few..
Eccl.3:19-21

You do not earn your way to heaven. God wants you in heaven with Him if you are obedient to God, you accept Christ, you have a strong relationship with God, you ask God for your forgiveness, and you show others a good Christian attitude.
God bless!
