I would not give my dog anything around the house to play with or chew on. A stuffed animal might be okay, but only if you closely supervise the play. Any loose pieces could come off in the chewing or playing and choke the animal. You could take some old socks and stuff them inside of each other and tie a knot in each end and make a pulling toy, but then again only under supervision. Toys from the store, like Kongs, are really great and last a lifetime.

A bunch of wadded up and knotted socks are a great toy.
Be careful with stuffed animals - A lot of them have styro "Beans" in them and will get all over the place if the dog tears it open. You also need to watch out for "eyes and noses" that they can chew off and choke on.
The best for dogs is really "dog" toys...

Socks are not good toys. Two reasons:
1. It teaches them it is OK to chew on socks. You may have issues with that when he gets into your good sock pile.
2. Socks are one of the most common foreign body obstructions removed from the GI tract of dogs during surgery. This is so common, it would shock you. I am a vet tech, and probably 75% of foreign body surgeries I have been in were socks, and as a surgery technician, I have been in alot of surgeries over the years. Socks can't hurt anything...WRONG!
Be careful with anything that they can rip apart and watch closely anytime they have toys.

My puppy also loves plastic bottles w/ the lid on them. Sometimes I'll put a few pieces of dog food in the bottle. He loves the noise it makes as he plays with it. Plus if the bottle were to become open I wouldn't worry about it containing something harmful to him.
