Until your able to get to the dentist, try putting liquor on the tooth and gum, sort of like a mouth wash. Rinse and spit. Then stay still and relax your body and mind focusing away from the pain to somewhere else. Deep breathing, inhale deeply then exhale slowly. Feel better and get to the doc asap.

You get the serious pain...not so much from the bad tooth,
but from the inflammation and infection IN THE TOOTH.
If you can't get to a dentist right away--can you see a doctor
and get a Rx for antibiotics?
As a measure for pain relief for just a few days--Ask the
pharmacist for oil of cloves and how to use it....Depending
on whether HE KNOWS or not. Another help is in the baby
aisle--Its called "Numzit" and it's for teething babies.

the best thing I've ever found was to take an aspirin tablet, cut into 4 equal parts, Then take one of the quarters and put it right on the gum where the pain is coming from and after it dissolves it will go directly to nerve and deaden the pain
I did this for about 5 or 6 yrs. At 1st the taste is awful but after a while you will get use to it.
e-mail me if you need more info

Use a heating pad. If you don't have one, put a lightly wet towel in a Ziploc bag (not closed) and heat it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. I've used that before for a toothache...works pretty well, just don't burn yourself.
