Because you are not getting enough oxygen while sucking through the straw. Your body builds up CO2 instantly. You then crave oxygen and breathe harder or heavier. This added oxygen carries and pumps the alcohol through your system faster.

Why dont you just try it at home and see, I dont ever notice a difference at all. You will never know, I dont think there's ever been scientific concrete reasoning by a chemist or scientist, just grab some beer one night use the straw a few days later grab the can and see, make a night of a party, steal the keys of your friends do the goofy stuff you were always warned not to and have fun do it with your love interest and thats entertainment

Obviously it's because the carbonated bubbles shrink in size to fit into the straw and then once ingested they EXPLODE in your stomach, and then hit your blood stream and then HIT yer brain, it's like mini atomic bombs going off in your body. If you are inclined to suck this answer down I have a bridge for sale in AZ...cheap! :)
