Feeding high-quality dog food is the best start when dealing with shedding. If you are already doing that, I suggest brushing every other day to every few days depending on the thickness of the coat to get that loose hair out.
Really good brushes for short/medium haired dogs that shed are shedding blades and Furminators.
For longer haired dogs I would get a slicker brush and a shedding rake. Those work really well to remove lots of hair in a short amount of time.
If the shedding is really bad you could try buying a high-velocity dryer from a grooming supply store. You can use these to blow the dead hair out of the dog's coat but these can be expensive. I hope this helps!

You just got to remember that dogs are outside animals and going in and out confusses their body as to shed. All you can do is brush the dog often

Keep the dog well brushed, daily if you need to. It will reduce a lot of the hair, but there is no way to totally prevent it (Unless you shave it, but then it would look really funny!)

It's normal for dogs to shed.
Here's something that works great. Go to your pet shop and get something like this-- http://www.dog.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=190343+SM+++++++++++&srccode=COMMJUNC
Take the dog outside and brush it with this. It only removes the dead hair so it doesn't hurt, in fact dogs love it. I had to do this on my dog's back with him sitting down because he would start scratching with his hind leg like they do when you scratch their backs. You can literally get a big brown grocery bag full of dead hair off when you use this the first time. It makes the dogs look nice and slick too because they don't have all of that dead coat in there mixed with the good.

Are you sure the food you feed is great? A lot of people think their food is really good, but it turns out to be filled with fillers and sugar, salt, by-products, etc. Make sure to brush daily, feed a great food, give nutritional supplements (such as the missing link), and bathe once and a while.

When you bathe the dog...use cooler water. You can also buy products that help minimize shedding...otherwise just keep him well brushed.
