It is usually the middle cracker in the pack.Like the club crackers you buy in the box. When looking from the outside of the clear pack that they are in,the middle cracker is always dark brown! Why?I have wondered this for years. If no one knows the answer then I will e-mail cracker makers until I get a suitable answer! Thanks!

lol, and i thought i was the only strange person in the world, actually i do find that what you say is true, or maybe it just happens on the packs we buy, but you know what, i also like the darker crackers, they taste more toasty or crackery, if thats even a word, haha, anyhow i am being serious with you....but why this is so, i dont know, maybe its a counting technique....who know but if and when you ever get a good answer, let me know...i am curious too and have been for years...lol again

You know how the last piece of a loaf of bread is still crusted. This is also known as the "butt bread" same concept for crackers I guess
