You shouldn't have to, but with the way things are going I'd say next week. I've never seen in my life a group of people demand that YOU bend over backward for them. This is nothing new, government agencies have been bending over backwards and jumping through hoops for them for years.
Them not wanting to learn English is BS, if they really had plans about staying here long term, I'd think you would want to learn the language and be able to communicate with others. Sorry but the language spoken here in this country is English, not Spanish.
If I moved to a foreign country I would be expected to learn the language. I doubt anyone there is going to make sure things are printed in English for me so I don't have a tough time of it. If I'm going to be staying there for any length of time I better be learning their language.
There is nothing wrong with learning Spanish if you want to but there sure is something wrong with them learning English. I love how schools force it on students, with no other language offered as an alternative, plus it's a required credit to graduate, what a joke. Why don't they all offer other languages other than Spanish?
I know some schools do offer other languages, but a whole lot don't. Well if American students are forced to learn Spanish here then Mexican students should be forced to learn English, sounds fair enough to me.
I'll tell you why they don't even try to learn English, it's because no one demands it from them, I mean you can't make them or you might be a accused of being a racist. lol
The comment has been made that being bilingual helps you with getting a good job. Why should you have to be when the language spoken here is English? Ok well if that is true, being bilingual helps you get a good job, why aren't the Mexican people that come here looking for a better life learning English in massive numbers?
Have a nice evening.

I doubt highly that you will learn enough Spanish in a high school Spanish 1 class to even think about using it on a daily basis, not in any real conversations anyways. And get ready for the anti backlash for even suggesting learning Spanish. And yes, there has always been this many Spanish speakers in America and yes, it is getting higher. There, I think I covered all the bases here.

Now in society if you want a decent job you need to be bi-lingual.
In so many states the percentage of the Hispanic population has risen.

are you even in southern california??? ....
spend a day out in east LA. just go south of the US International border... spend a weekend in El Paso texas. try helping out in some of those really cheapo medical clinics..... i mean clinico Medica. there's patients there from the barrios & slums that really need help... & they don't speak English at all.
just check out the growth of Latino in America... the latino community could possibly overwhelm us & or out grow us.

probably after you get out of college and your art degree isn't helping you and you have to start paying back your student loans, and you have to take what you can get for work, and you end up working at a laundry plant with a bunch of illegals who sit an converse in spanish while eating their lunch, and you feel left out
