i need to get a total of 4 crowns. My dentist printed out a treatment plan for me in great detail for every tooth and what that tooth needs. On 1 tooth for example it was Crown-porc fuse high noble (p), Seat crown, Prefab post & core in add to crm. What does that mean? I dont understand what a cronw - porc fuse high noble means? What are different types of crowns? Why cant i get a stainless steel crown? My sister is almost 20 and has a stainless steel crown.

Crowns can be put any where not just in the front. I do need a total of 4 crowns. 1 is on the bottom right side tooth number 30 because i had a root canal done on that tooth 10 months ago; then a crown in front of that tooth; then i need a crown on tooth number 3 thats up right side in the back; and then 1 on the right front tooth after it has a root canal.

There are two types of crowns: an all-metal crown and the porcelain-fused to metal crown.

An all metal crown as the name says it is made entirely of metal. It could either be noble metal (gold), high noble or semi-precious metal. It is NOT stainless steel. Stainless steel crowns are used for pediatric patients and usually come pre-formed. All metal crowns are usually placed on molars since esthetics is not that crucial they are not seen. (Since molars are on the farther portion of your mouth.) They also cost less compared to porcelain fused to metal crowns. You could tell your dentist that you just want an all-metal crown if esthetics is no issue with you.

There is no dentist on his or her right mind that would put an all metal crown on a patient's front teeth unless requested by the patient.

A porcelain fused to metal crown means that the crown has a porcelain facing. This crown is used for teeth that are in the esthetic zone, most especially on anterior teeth.

Prefab post and core in addition to the crown. Prefabricated post and core...Putting in a post and core means that there is not much tooth structure to hold your crown so he has to put in a post inside your tooth and build it up with a core which will replace the missing tooth structure. Posts could either be prefabricated or casted.

Talk to your dentist. I am sure he would appreciate your taking interest in the matter and so that you would also know what you are paying for. :)

Crowns can be put on any teeth.
There is nobel metal, semi-noble metal, all pertaining to the amount of gold vs paladium used.

Crowns probably cost the dentist 125-175 and he is going to charge you 800-1000.

Stainless will cost you 125.00, but for use on back teeth.
Most dentists will not put in a stainless steel crown.

They would rather empty your wallet. SMILE!!!!!!!

Crowns are generally on your two front teeth, in fact they are ONLY on your front 2 teeth. You don't have 4 of them so that is confusing me that he told you that. If you want silver teeth as your 2 primary teeth then tell the dentist your preference and forget about having white teeth as your primary two teeth in the front of your mouth.
