When my hubby and I went on vacation we boarded our mini-collie and she came home with fleas. We got her itches taken care of with a good visit to the groomer and a flea dip but I was wondering what was a good purchase to make to kill the fleas that could be in the carpet and on the couch?

The best product on the market to treat your carpet and furniture, would be Ultracide. This is an aerosol spray that many professional pest control companies use. (I own a company, and this is what I use.) You can buy it on-line from almost any of those Do-it-yourself companies. It can also be found on e-Bay for about $20.

Good luck!

I give my dog frontline plus, it seems to help but dogs will scratch once in a while so I don't worry that much. But shampooing the carpet works, I did that last summer when we she was having flea problems which was recommended by my vet when we took her in to get checked. We sprayed our backyard with the insect killer, the one that you put in a green machine and you turn the knob and it sprays the tiny pellet looking over the grass and you water it then wait for the gras to dry.

Not too sure what to do about the couch.

Use the Adam's fogger. It works well. Advantage and Frontline Plus did not work very well for my dog. Many say that you can use it without treating your house but that's not true. Make sure to treat your yard as well.

A natural solution is salt. I put it on my couch whenever I suspect that there are fleas. Of course, this only kills the adults.

i had this problem before and i tried all the over the counter stuff before i actually broke down and spent the money. i put my dog on advantage and called an exterminator. it cost 100 dollars, but i had already spent that on the silly solutions first. usually the exterminators put a one year guarantee on their work too. they spray the whole house and it kills all the fleas. if you dont do this the other solutions may work for a while but you will never really get rid of the fleas....they breed like crazy

capstar is what we used but its a pill and i think you have to get it from the vet. frontline we used as well, that you can buy at a pet store and goes between there shoulder blades. that pills works awesome though, it killed fleas in the first few hours. you could actualy see them dieieng and falling off. but we have 2 dogs and 3 cats so fleas are always a battle. try those 2, the pill is the way though. good luck. sorry..dont use bombs either, our vet said there useless. she told us to use boric acid. but be very careful with that stuff! sprinkle it on whatever surface, let it set for a few hours and vacum the heck out of it, and change your vacum baf afterwards.

I use Frontline given to me by my vet. If your dog was not in your house a long time, vacuuming will get rid of most of the fleas and the Frontline will get rid of the rest. I would not spray a poison in your house unless you have been overtaken by the fleas. I can be dangerous to your family and pets.

I think Flea Bombs/Foggers work the best for fleas living in the house. I would also get a flea preventitive for the dog, otherwise those fleas will just jump back on.

We have used Frontline and Advantage. They are very expensive. They didnt work any better and sometimes not as well as just plain old Adams flea and tick Killer. Most vets carry it and so does Atwoods, and a lot of Farm supply stores.

Get your dog on Advantage from your vet. It will also kill any fleas in the house that jump on her and bite. They have flea killers for carpets and such, but don't always work.

Advantage is the way to go. It can be purchased from the vet. Apply once a month on the dog and you don't need to treat the house with anything else. Works great!
