I'm pretty sure mine is 130 over 84, is that good, average, etc.? Just a quick explanation would help. How can you tell if a number is good?

What's your age? The text-book "normal" is 120/80, and that is lower for children/teens and higher for middle-aged/elderly. Lots of people have "white coat hypertension" which just means that their BP goes up because they get nervous around drs/nurses, so yours may actually be a little lower normally. If you are at least in your 20's, in good health, have a good weight, it's probably fine for you.

BTW, the top number or "systolic" pressure is the pressure exerted on the artery walls during the contraction of the heart. The bottom or "diastolic" pressure is the pressure on the artery walls when the heart is at rest.

Hope this helps. See your doctor with any questions.

Well I would do the emergency room and get the prescription. Or I would go to the low income clinic and yes your county has one. Ask the hospital where the heck it is. Or call the welfare dept and ask where it is. You are seen free if u have no money. Now to answer your question the 110 on the bottom number is WAY HIGH so know that. You are supposed to have a base of 70 or 75. in the 90s is not good so your number is pre-heart attack. Also the 170 is liveable but high. Your top number needs to be 125. So drag your self to a regular doctor and explain to him (not the nurse what your problem$ is and a doctor most likely will help you out (maybe payments but he has the power. You can hand the nurse a brief note to give to the doctor explaining your situation and b/p. Try this and be clean and proper. But for all intents and purposes here you need to do everything you can Now. ps Target sells a $25 b/p cuff and its the one I have and it records and all you do is slip it on your arm above the elbow and press a button. The grocery has a free one by the pharmacy.

Yours B/P seems good. The 130 is a good number to stay around. This is called the systolic blood pressure, and it basically the pressure that is exerted on the arteries when the heart actually "beats". The bottom number you want to keep below 90, and is the pressure that is exerted on the arteries when the heart is at rest, or between beats. Understand?

According to high blood pressure guidelines from the American Heart Association (AHA), numbers under 140/90 and over 90/60 are generally considered normal in adults.
