I had a good friend who was always in tears at work because her husband would tell her she was fat and needed to lose weight (only he didn't say it so nicely).

I told her the next time he complained about her weight, she should just turn to him sweetly and say "Honey, I can always lose this weight, but your penis will never get any bigger". She said he stopped mentioning her weight after that.

If someone verbally attacks me I usually walk away without saying anything. This puts the ball back in their court, so to speak. If I can't leave the area I'll usually say "I don't have time for this" and then turn away from that person. This also puts the ball back in their court. As to what the person would say to cause me to do this............... You know what offends you the most.
