There are many places in your community that would appreciate volunteers during the summer. Your school counselor may be a great source or you can reach out to your city hall or rec center. The latter two usually have a list of places that need volunteers, such as local park programs, senior citizen centers, libraries, local hospitals, etc. I commend you for your commitment to volunteerism - too few are willing to give of their time to help their communities or other in need. Way to go!

There are many ways to provide some community service. Your local volunteer center can usually provide you with assistance to connect you with a project or non-profit agency that can use your talents and skills. The best part is that you can usually find stuff through your volunteer center that will also match your interests. Most volunteer centers provide placement for one-time, short-term, and long-term volunteer projects.

Here are some links to help you find your local volunteer center:

If no volunteer center exists in your immediate area, check with your local chapter of the United Way. They also provide similar volunteer matching services.

Good luck!

Since you are in highschool you would be best to find something within walking distance or bus ride from your home.
