I think tattoos that mean something to the person are the best ones to get. I have three and I designed them myself. Two of them are because I don't like wearing jewelry (except my engagement and wedding rings), one is a special cross necklace given to me and the other will serve as a mother's ring when it is completely finished. My third is a symbol that I have believed in for many years.

My husband also has three tattoos. His first one he got while being active duty in the army. He has the cliche Chinese symbols, but in all fairness the roommate he had at the time designed the tattoo and this guy is Chinese. His other tattoos go together and have to do with being raised in a Mexican family that is quite religious.

i dont think any tattoo's are sh!t the person who has it, has it for a reason and if they like it then its there opinion.
i read something the other day in a tattoo studio that went something like this:
the only difference between a tattooed person and a non tattooed person is that a tattooed person doesnt care if ur not tattooed.
there is so much truth in this sayin.
people judge others too much and i think anyone who is going to judge someone by the way they look can go to hell.

I personally don't like cartoony tattoos, just don't think it would suit once i get old and wrinkly! I have a butterfly on my lower back (ok so it's common these days but wasn't so much when i had it done) and i like it-butterflies represent beauty and the instability in life. I also have a tribal flower design on my foot which i love. But these are my opinions and choices, as long as you like your own tattoos-that's the main thing!

Something that means something o you is always best. Something symbolic. I have a Dragonfly by an incredible artist named Miya here in Atlanta. It symbolizes new beginnings and new life. Getting tattoos because it's just "pretty" is kind of dumb. What you think is "Cool" at 21 may seem silly at 31. So as long as it's meaningful you can't go wrong.

I hate those stupid cartoony tattoos. I got a pegasis lying down with a rainbow (sort of) in the background and a burning hot sun. It sounds a little sillier than it is, I really like it. I searched for the right one for 2 years before I finally found it. I wanted something sort of fantasia-like.

Turns out, the pegasis is some ancient symbol for my sign...pisces. I didn't know this until after I got it.

Anyway, stupid childish things are dumb, and names and things are kind of risky too, unless it's like a sibling or relative of some sort, and even then they'd have to be like REALLY cool relatives to deserve me wearing their names for that long!! LOL!! Unless it's on my ***!

Hmmm; I have 5. 2 on my forearms I regret, only because of how people change their attitudes towards me after they see them. I like them all, but I can see how some people can think them a bit gay; pixie, flower-fairy, butterfly and a symmetrical celtic pair. I was self-harming at the time; this was a positive outlet. I'll get some more when I'm an old lady.

Never get a bf/gf's name. If you do get anything written you can't get it written too small or it will blur pretty fast. My daughter just got one this week of a Grateful Dead Dancing Teddy Bear. It is in memory of her father who was a Dead head and died when she was 8. She was going to get RIP Daddy '66-'99 under it but it wouldn't have looked right to get it written as big as would be necessary.

I have had my tattoo for 20 years now and have never regretted it. The main thing is to put it where you can show it or hide it depending on circumstances. Both my daughter and I have ours on the right shoulder but hers is more towards the back.

Hi

I have 4 tatts and 2 of them I designed myself.

As long as it has some kind of meaning to the person who is getting it. I reckon it's pretty cool that I have a bit of a story behind each one.

The best idea I have (maybe in a couple of years I will get it) is to find a tattooist who is a mad drawer and take my fav picture of my face, get him to sketch half of it and the other half of the face would be kinda like a skeleton form melting away type of look. This tattoo would represent my split personality.

I don't know where I would get that one tho.

I think if the tattoo is custom and not just one picked out of a book they are great, I think that the ones that are picked out out a book are the dumbest ones you can get exp.. You walk down the street and see the same tat as you got, don't you think it's tacky I do. I have 13 tat's and they are all one of a kind.

one thing that REALLY gets me are pathetically small tattoos. When girls like nicole richie get tiny tattoos of stars and flowers and all that nonsense just so they can say "ooooh look at me! i have a tattoo!"
For me, tattoos are about expression.
Like poets and musicians who write and make music, tatoos are a way of carrying a form of art with me.
I hate people who jump on the tattoo bandwagon just to look cool.
Another one that gets me is all thses little chav's (sorry about the generalisation/stereotyping-not something i usually do) who get celtic crap all over their arms to look "hard".
You can pretty much tell who are into tattooing and body art as an art form itself but doing it just because your friends are...what the hell is all that about. Anyway...rant over. Much love to everyone xXxXx
