I had a half shot of vodka in a glass of orange juice. I set it down to go do something and my 13 month old took a sip of it when I wasn't looking. I turned around just in time to see her set the cup down. She doesn't seem intoxicated and she didn't drink a lot. Her Pediatrition's office is closed already.. what should I do?

She only took a little drink right? Then shes all right and you dont have to go to ER. Just put your drinks up from now on. And dont let anyone on here tell you that you are awful or anthing -their opinion doesnt count.

Don't drink until they're asleep! But if you do, I have a rule at my house for any beverages we drink when my 10 month old daughter is up and running around: leave it in the kitchen! Even glasses of water, and especially cans of soda. We don't have anywhere but the kitchen to set drinks out of her reach, so we just don't bring drinks into the living room where she can get to them. She should be okay, but I would call the ER and ask them what you should do, I'm sure they would be of more help than anyone if your doctor is unavailable.

It sounds like she only had a sip so I don't think there is much to worry about. It takes adults 2 hours for alcohol to leave their system... since she is smaller and she only had a sip, my best guess is she will be fine.
Wait a day or so and if she apperas to be okay then that's a good thing. If you notice anything unusual then notify her doctor, but be prepared for a report for child protective services if you do tell the doctor because they're mandated reporters. But please do not let that deter you from seeking the best care for your child.
Anyhow, in some cultures they give children alcohol, so I do not think you'r child is severely affected.

Be careful!! my sister's best friend had a flat beer out bearly a sip left in the bottle, she used the bear in a recipe, her 2 year old drank it, I mean it was a tiny amount, but she called poison control to be safe.....and they called child services and took her 3 kids away. This woman was the best mother anyone could know.

I think your daughter should be fine. Thankgod it was a small quantity. I would keep a close eye on her. That would mean no more drinks for you this evening. This should be a lesson for you to keep your drink up where little hands can't reach. I'm a parent also and tragic things can happen really fast. good luck

She didn't drink enough to hurt her, I really don't think you should have to take her to the hospital or call poison control...just watch her closely. And just be more careful....

Oh, and really...i wouldn't call poison control unless you start noticing something really wrong with her (which you won't)!!!! They can (and most probably will) call Family Services!!

Do you have an after hours nursing number you can call, my pediatricians office has one that enacts when you call during closed business hours. I would call and see what they have to say. They can tell you whether to bring your baby into the hospital or not. Or what you can do for her at home.

Take her to the pediatrician's office in the morning.

Next time when you have a drink, set it in a spot where she cannot reach it.

she should be OK. if it was strong then the most she did was taste it. if she did take a sip on two then she'll sleep good tonight. but seriously she should be fine just keep and eye on her through the night. no worries.

the next step would be to open up a bag of pretzels or something. don't worry, it's not bad for the kid. as for poison control, don't listen to that ****, it's just alcohol. the only thing that makes alcohol seem so bad in this society is the law against it.
