When being petted, my cat will often start swishing his tail like mad. Big, fast, back and forth swishes. And he'll purr and head butt and generally be a big sweet heart.

But I've always heard that vigorous tail swishing means the cat is angry or very irritated.

Is this always true?

Does anyone else own a cat who "waggs" its tail when happy?

I've only seen a couple of cats do this when they're happy, but it's so cool. It cracks me up.

My younger one swishes his tail when he's angry or irritated; also when he's about to attack, play or real.

good day ive had some cats and what has a tendency to take position is they are going to graceful there tail often on an identical speed with an identical volume of aggression(both the completed tail or little twitches on the end) it truly is because they're content alongside with purring yet when the move of the tail ameliorations then thecats mood has replaced ie no matter if it really is swishing more effective your cat is now no longer satisfied yet a standard rythem of the tail shifting does no longer advise he or she is inevitably offended

it all depends on your cat. if your cat is happy with you when
(and after) being petted, this isnt true for you. my cat turns his ears slightly down when he is getting pissed. (most) cats give warnings as to when they like whats going on...like my cat & his ears.my cat waggs his tail in a little swish when he likes being petted, and is a very sharp flick when he is irritated. but ive had him for 4 years, so i know how to tell his moods pretty easily.

Hope i helped

I'm always afraid it has an ailment... like uti infection or worse... we'd explored fleas and allergies and lots of stuff... he still does it... rather aggressive too. as is his beautiful also snow white long haired sister. the othres are afraid of them one way or another.. one vet says he just wants to be top cat... another says too many cats in one space. hes goin on prozac nexty week poor babbykat. he knows no peace.

I have a cat who does this when he is anticipating his dinner. If he does it when I am brushing him (and trying to get at mats) I know that I had better back off.

It means your cat is in hunting mode. When it does it you should play with it!
