There's a big difference. Ostiches are from Africa emus from Australia. Emus are quite a bit smaller and have bristly feathers, ostrichs are bigger faster stronger and fluffly. Both are flightless and raised for eggs and meat but thats as close as they really get.

Differences? Yes, the birds are different but even more remarkable are their similarities. Even though they live continents apart — the ostrich in Africa and the emu in Australia — the look-alike long-necked, long-legged birds are both flightless runners. They are champions.

The emu and ostrich. Their keepers indicate the birds' relative sizes.

Differences: The emu is about 25% shorter than the ostrich and has three toes. The ostrich has only two (the only bird with two toes). They live in similar terrain — open country — but widely separated.

Both belong to the same order of birds but not the same family.

Why are they so similar since they are in different animal families? Primarily because they are both superb runners.

ostriches and emus have the same body plan. The birds apparently share a common ancestor who lived long ago on the gigantic landmass,

I've worked with both birds and I can say there's a world of difference. First, they're from different continents. :) The ostrich is much larger and males can be extremely aggressive. Emus are much smaller and are more docile in nature. Not sure what differences you're looking for but if you're looking for differences for raising the animals, I'd recommend emus. They're easier on the fences, less dangerous and easier to work around. They're pretty easy-going birds. I've never worked with Rheas which are the other large flightless bird (from south america) but are not commonly seen here.

They are both large flightless birds.
The ostrich is at up to 10 feet high at the head, can weigh up to 400 pounds; and they can bite and their kick can be lethal. They can run 40 mph for 30 minutes, wow. They are perhaps the stupidest bird in all creation.
The emu is about 5 feet tall and can weigh up to 90 pounds. You can feed it by hand and not get bitten. It is rather gentle and pleasant. Not much brighter than an ostrich.

Emus are smaller I think, they're are definitely different birds, though they are somewhat similar. Emu's are more of a brownish colour, while the ostrich is black

They're two different birds.

Ostritches are larger and taller, with black and white feathers and a bald-ish, pink head.

Emus are smaller with brown feathers, and they are not as tall as ostritches.

But BOTH of them are so scary! I'm terrified of them.
