If you're looking for speed, durability, and smoothness, plus okay gas mileage, then each of these companies has something for you. It all depends on what you prefer.
Nissan has the Skyline GT-R, 300ZX Turbo, and 350Z Track, all in that era, all fast. The 350Z would likely be the cheapest, but it's also the least powerful. The 300ZX is very fast, reliable, and looks cool. The Skyline is the hardest to find in the United States, and is by far the most expensive (almost as much as a brand new 350Z).
Acura only has the NSX, which is generally still way too pricey for the likes of most people. It's also hard to live with on a day-to-day basis, with little luggage room, a tiny cockpit, and only two seats.
Honda has the S2000, with the high horsepower I-4 under the hood and a VTech engine. It's also Rear-Wheel Drive and only available as a convertible. I've heard that the high RPM shift can get annoying after a few months.
Toyota has the Supra Turbo, possible the best out of all of these. It's All-Wheel Drive, blazingly fast, and very reliable. It's a middle-range price, below the NSX and Skyline. It has a sizeable trunk, excellent stability, and good gas mileage for this type of car. Plus, it looks kinda cool.
Other cars not mentioned would include the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, Mazda RX-7 and RX-8, and Ford Mustang GT.
The Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 has goodies like All-Wheel Drive, twin turbos, Four-Wheel Steering, and enough power to outrun the Skyline. It's one of the harder ones to find, and rather pricey for a well-maintained example.
The Mazdas are rotary powered, and also reliable, but tend to suck up gas rather quickly. They're both rated under 20 miles per gallon both city and highway. They're the most conventional cars, with useable rear seats and a good-sized trunk for a sportscar. They're also likely to be among the cheaper cars in this category
The Ford Mustang GT (even though it's not an import) is my personal pick because it's durable, very reliable, and has excellent power. It also handles fairly well, gets gas mileage in the mid 20s on the highway, and has good interior and luggage room. It would likely fall in near the middle in price, on par with the Supra and 300ZX. On the downside, it's heavy and doesn't offer All-Wheel Drive or traction control, but instead relies on driving ability. Plus, you just can't beat the sound of a good-ol' V-8 rumbling at your competitors as you blow them away.
If you want ease of use, buy the Toyota Supra Turbo or Honda S2000. If you need something you can live with daily, buy one of the Mazdas. If you can handle the power, go for the Ford Mustang or the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4.
If you have any more questions about these, or any other models, please feel free to ask.

Nissan or Toyota for speed. I know woman will prefer to choose Honda because of the good looking but for sure the power is less than Nissan or Toyota.

i own a repair shop, and i wont go with Honda on the reliability part,,there too over rated, i do a lot of work on them,,id have to say the Toyota or the Nissan,,there the two best reliable cars on the road today,,Honda,s are giving a lot of trouble these days,,i have a Nissan sentra that has over 164 thousand miles on it,,and it still starts and runs as good as it did when it was new,,and has never let me down,,i see a lot of Honda,s coming to the shop for bad engines these days,,and most of them low miles ones at that,,so i wouldn't actually go with a Honda right now,,either,, a Toyota or a Nissan for reliability,,would be my choice,,good luck hope this help,s.

If price is not an issue I'd go with an Acura. They're the most luxurious brand of the bunch and their cars have the most speed and quality out of all of them. Nissan cars are a little less expensive and they have some pretty fast cars as well.

I love my Acura integra! or a Honda civic/ accord. Honda and Acura are the same company. but if you go with any of them you can turbo it so its just like the Nissan skyline or infiniti g35. skyline was the base for a g35. in case you want to go wit one of those! but any way Honda is the way to go!!!

Not much. Many people will be surprised at what is and is not an import. A lot of "American" cars are actually from Canada and Mexico. And alot of "import" cars are built in the USA. And people get on here and cry "Buy American"
