My dog just broke her water, we think. We found a wetspot on the carpet. Is it like a women, I mean is it a good amount of water? If she did indeed break her water, how long now till she starts panting and stuff? She is pretty normal right now.

Yes a dogs water does break like a human's does. She could just be leaking fluid or all of her water could be broken. It could take a couple hours for her to start getting painful and start going into labor. If she starts pushing if she hasn't had puppys in more than 4 hours than contact a vet immediatly. Well good luck with your soon to be mother.

Usually within 8 hours. If you have been measuring her temp. it will drop drastically from 98 to 94. Also have you had an x-ray to see how many pups she will be having, if not, make sure you take her to the vet after you think all she has had all of them. My last one had he last pup at 6 am, so we thought, but when we took her to get her post whelpin shot to clean her out, they did an x-ray and noticed she still had one pup. She didnt have it until 6 hours later. Which was almost 12 hours totaly dleivery with probably 4 hours labor.

I don't think it will be long. Make sure she's in a quiet area and just keep an eye on her. If she shows signs of distress and nothing's happening, then call your vet.

Dog's "waters" are nothing like human's.
When she passes a black/greenish gooey stuff, then, that's when the birthing process begins.

She should be delivering any time now. You need to stay with her and help her if she needs it.
