Seventh-day Adventists believe that Sunday is the mark of papal authority. And they believe the papacy is the beast.

They misunderstand. They claim that the early church met on Saturday but the practice was changed a few centuries later. They do not seem to realize that Justin Martyr, writing in 156 A.D. and Tertullian, around 200 A.D. BOTH discuss Christians PRIMARY assembly being on Sunday. How did these guys write about it over 100 years BEFORE the supposed "change" took place. They are VERY WRONG and misguided.

Tertullian, Ad Nationes, ch 13, Complete, written c. 200 A.D.:
Others, with greater regard to good manners, it must be confessed, suppose that the sun is the god of the Christians, because it is a well-known fact that we pray towards the east, or because we make Sunday a day of festivity. What then? Do you do less than this? Do not many among you, with an affectation of sometimes worshipping the heavenly bodies likewise, move your lips in the direction of the sunrise? It is you, at all events, who have even admitted the sun into the calendar of the week; and you have selected its day, in preference to the preceding day as the most suitable in the week for either an entire abstinence from the bath, or for its postponement until the evening, or for taking rest and for banqueting. By resorting to these customs, you deliberately deviate from your own religious rites to those of strangers. For the Jewish feasts an the Sabbath and "the Purification," and Jewish also are the ceremonies of the lamps, and the fasts of unleavened bread, and the "littoral prayers," all which institutions and practices are of course foreign from your gods. Wherefore, that I may return from this digression, you who reproach us with the sun and Sunday should consider your proximity to us. We are not far off from your Saturn and your days of rest.

Justin Martyr, 1st Apology, ch 67, excerpt, written 156 A.D.:
And on the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things.

These were both written OVER A CENTURY before the SDA's CLAIM that the day was changed. HOW???

Jesus PREDICTED the END of the law. The next verse after he says HE didn't come to destroy the law says in Mt 5:18, "What I’m about to tell you is true. Heaven and earth will disappear before the smallest letter disappears from the Law. Not even the smallest stroke of a pen will disappear from the Law until everything is completed."
Notice the ending, "... UNTIL everything is completed." IF it were to be in effect for all time, there would be no "UNTIL."

John 19:30 records Jesus' last words in his earthly lifetime. The Greek word John uses is tetelestai. In a unique way, John points us to the time when everything "had been completed." He uses the word used many times in scripture translated as made perfect, matured, completed, etc. in a FORM which indicates "a completed action with an enduring effect." EVERYTHING HAD BEEN COMPLETED. The PERFECT sacrifice was offered at Passover and none would ever be needed again. The effect, which became the apostles' message delivered at Pentecost, has been felt for almost 2000 years now.

About the law:

Galatians 5:4 Some of you are trying to be made right with God by obeying the law. You have been separated from Christ. You have fallen away from God’s grace...

The ONLY verse that talks about falling from grace, and they did it by trying to follow the law! Don't make that same mistake.

I am sorry that your nephew has "indicted" you in expressing his belief.

Seventh-day Adventists keep the Sabbath from sundown Friday night to sundown Saturday night, in keeping with the fourth commandment. Jesus also kept the Sabbath.

This is their official statement concerning their belief in the Sabbath:
The beneficent Creator, after the six days of Creation, rested on the seventh day and instituted the Sabbath for all people as a memorial of Creation. The fourth commandment of God's unchangeable law requires the observance of this seventh-day Sabbath as the day of rest, worship, and ministry in harmony with the teaching and practice of Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a day of delightful communion with God and one another. It is a symbol of our redemption in Christ, a sign of our sanctification, a token of our allegiance, and a foretaste of our eternal future in God's kingdom. The Sabbath is God's perpetual sign of His eternal covenant between Him and His people. Joyful observance of this holy time from evening to evening, sunset to sunset, is a celebration of God's creative and redemptive acts. (Gen. 2:1-3; Ex. 20:8-11; Luke 4:16; Isa. 56:5, 6; 58:13, 14; Matt. 12:1-12; Ex. 31:13-17; Eze. 20:12, 20; Deut. 5:12-15; Heb. 4:1-11; Lev. 23:32; Mark 1:32.)

I believe when you look up these texts you will understand the reasons for this belief. Seventh-day Adventists respect the beliefs of others but believe that when they learn more about the SDA beliefs, they will also believe.

You have my sincere best wishes as you study the Bible. If you click on my avatar (made-up picture!) it will take you to my Yahoo Answers site and you can contact me by e-mail if you have other questions. I have been a Seventh-day Adventist all my life and have found that it has resulted in a wonderful life.

We should obey God's commandments because He loves us and we love Him.

God bless you and keep you in His arms.
