It depends on your metabolism, weight, and build. Most diets that involve eating less than 800 calories per day are / should be doctor supervised.
The most common answer given to those trying to lose weight safely is between 1200 and 1500 calories for an average sized adult. Men at that level usually lose about 3lb per week, and women between 1.5 and 2 lbs. This slows down as you near gloal weight, however.
The best thing to do to determine how many calories YOU should have is to go to the doctor and have them perform a BMI rating a metabolic panel. After that, a nutritionist should be able to set your minimum safe caloric level.

1200 CALORIES per day is the minimum usually cited, although it could be more or less depending on your size, age and activity level. If enough calories and nutrients aren't consumed for an extended period of time it can be hazardous to your health. So to lose weight just eat less and exercise more, but remember consume a balance and variety of foods including plenty of fresh fruits and veges:)

Doctors would say between 2000 and 2500 calories. However I believe that it depends on several things. Age, metabolism, gender, and in some cases family history. Are you trying to lose or gain weight? In most cases I think it's more important to eat all the major food groups in moderation.

Yes, but that number depends on your metabolism, how active you are, etc. For an exact analysis I would contact a Nutritionist.
