I have one 6 years old son who is so interested in how to build bridges, tunnels, skyscrapers etc, and also fastinates about fast trains especially Maglev, and I am running out of ideas of constructions, experiments and all the TV programs I could provide. Could anyone give me suggestions where to find more challenges or interesting places like museums or exhibition centers (local or overseas ones) that can inspire us. Thank you.

If you are in Australia then I would suggest visiting Warragamba Dam west of Sydney, which was an engineering feat of its time and years to follow There is a fully hads on exhibition centre there and guided tours are offered and a busy curious little mind will have lots of things to see and do..... I'd suggest taking a picnic to enjoy the gardens and surrounds while you are there....

Also take him to centre point tower first going to a place where it can be seen in full from the ground then take him there to see the tower itself and go right up the top!

Continue feeding his mind with lots interesting little visits to engineering works of art as well as providing him with hands on fun too by ensuring he has a really good meccano set and spend time with him showing him how pullies and nuts and bolts work... and then let him make what he wants.... give him encouragement to explore what does and doesnt work...

also if you know someone building a small project such as a carport or even a brick BBQ then take him along to see how small building projects are carried out.... this gives him a full sense of the practicality of designing and building structures as well as the ooh and ahh experience of wow that is how it is done..

I am sure you have already got some Lincoln Logs and other build it kind of toys.

But to the real world. The Big Dig in Boston is one of the the largest civil projects to date. I would look for local construction sites where there are cranes and large bull dozers and such. Then you can go by on a periodic basis and take pictures and watch it be built.
