There are three generations. The girl in the last generation is a daughter. The girl in the middle generation is the mother of the girl, and the daughter of the first generation. The first generation woman is only a mother. :O

There are only 3 women. One the grandmother is the mother of her own daughter, her daughter has her own daughter (the granddaughter). so they each get their own cat because there are only 3 of them
