100 years - a score is 20. Think of Abraham Lincoln's speech where he said "Four score and seven years ago .." He made the speech in 1863 and he was referring to 1776. So he was referring to 87 years ago - 4 score and 7.

A "score" was popularly used in the 17 and 1800's to describe 5 years. It made it easier to say larger numbers. Five score would be 25 years, because 5 x 5 is 25.
