It's hard to make anyone quit smoking as the addictive properties alone are comparable to a heroin addiction.
There are countless smoking cessation programs & products available, but the bottom line is that the individual must have a desire to quit.
There is a new medication (link below) designed to act on the neurosystem to decrease the desire to smoke. Other products on the market (Welbutrin, patch, gum) are also available.
Encouragment also works well if your mum has a sincere desire to quit the habit. Best of luck!

I'm sorry I can't I smoke and I'm a mother of a 18 year old, but I can maybe give some light on your mom. She tells you that she has quit because she hates hurting you believe me I know how she fells my daughter hates smoke. Your mother and I are old school and then it was cool to smoke and I am so glade things have changed. Because I myself hate to see a young person smoking. It is very hard to quit some people says it helps calm there nerves and that is very true in my case. If you get mad at your mom it will only make it worse. I hope that one day your mother and I can quit. Sorry this probably didn't help you much.

I know you want your mom to quit smoking. My brother and father have been at it for years and always say they will quit. The sad thing is you can't make her. She needs to make the decision on her own. As a former smoker of 5 years, you know the health risks and what you are doing to your body every drag you take. But when you are addicted, it doesn't matter. I'm sorry honey. The best you can do is try to push your own campaign at home and keep telling your mom how much you would miss her and need her at your graduation, wedding, birth of your first child, etc.
Good luck and may God have mercy on your mother's lungs/health!

Sorry, but the only person who can make her quit is herself. She probably wants to but doesn't know how. It's very hard. You are not only addicted to the nicotine but the habit of smoking is hard to put away. There are medications that can help. Don't suggest the patch, etc. Especially not the suckers or gum. You only become addicted to them. There is a new medication called Chantrix that has had great success. Maybe you could go see her physician with her and ask him/her about it. Either way, it is an addiction that is hard to break. Don't give up or blame yourself for this. She will do what she must when she can. Good luck.

You can't force a person to quit smoking. I come from a family who all smoke, except for me and a little sister, and no amount of nagging, pleading, begging, not even when my mom developed empysema would she quit. Just try to avoid the smoke, and keep hoping. You have my prayers, and just make sure YOU never pick up a cigarette. It is definately not worth it. I don't know how old you are but if and when you move out just make your home and vehicle smoke free, so when they are with you at least you got the right to say please don't light up that cigarette here.

I smoke but my children do not know you can not make someone quit however you can express your feeling print out some facts and find some solutions like the patch and some local classed she can attend most red crosses can direct you the way for some free how to quit and medical insurances provide them. Once she sees your hard work she should respond well I hope good luck I know its hard though I am at one a day now though.

This is a lesson you should learn now, and never forget it.
You Cannot Get People To Change If They Don't Want To Change.
That goes for parents.. and especially boyfriends and husbands, so chose carefully.
