Ok I'm not racist at all and I do speak Spanish pretty well, but this it starting to get a little out of hand. I mean I cant take my 9yr old sister in the store without being a Spanish-to -English translator myself. I can understand having things in Spanish in the Spanish stores but come on now people you come to America to work and you want us to change so you can come here without being educated enough to learn out language.. the last time i checked , in America we speak "American" (English). Honestly many people like myself have learned to speak enough Spanish to communicate with them, so why wont they make an effort to learn our language?
If I were to move to another country I would at least try to learn the language. but here in the states you cant place an order at McDonald's without having some guy who barely speaks English screwing up the order because he doesn't understand.
ok people say it's not fair to them.. but it really is, there is no reason why they cant learn English

I agree with you. This may be the land of the free, but it's not the land of the you speak my language even though I came to your country. I get so frustrated when I call somewhere and can't even understand what they are saying. I thought that this was America, but the government has taken the "Melting Pot" a little too far!

There is an old Chinese proverb that goes something like this: "A person who moves to another country and fails to learn its ways, he is like a rock thrown into the river. It is still wet, but can never really be a part of the river."

Many older people who come here (NOT just the Spanish-speaking) have a much more difficult time learning and adapting to a new language and new ways than would a younger person. Now, this being said, I spent about five years in Korea on a military assignment, and I could have stayed only on post or just visit the "ville" where English was spoken, but I didn't.

I made myself go into situations where no one spoke English, and learned Korean. I'm by no means fluent, but I am conversant and I can read it. My point is this - I wanted to learn, so I found a way to learn. Anyone can learn the basics IF THEY WANT TO. All it takes is a little effort and a desire to adapt to the surrounding culture.

And by the way, my Korean wife of 28 years speaks excellent English now. She spoke almost none when we met.

That is a well query. Although the US doesnt have an "legitimate" language, it's lovely noticeable that you simply must be taught english to are living right here. It constantly turns out just like the spanish-audio system are those that dont be taught english, even though they have been right here two decades. I have peers that moved right here five years in the past from Russia and the Phillippines and stuff and so they all talk as good as us with restrained accents. I dont realize if its simply delight of their background or what however you shouldnt be annoyed with it, it's their fault not to adapt. They are customarily simply ALL operating below the desk, no longer simply the $7/hr man or woman and are unlawful and shouldnt be operating within the US...thats my wager besides.

Excuse me, but I cannot see what is the harm in learning another language. If some people cannot or will not learn english that is absolutely NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.
If you think that learning another language belittles you, you should go see a psychiatrist. You may have a complex of some sort
