When I was in church I remember a black man coming to our (white) service and saying that he really felt at home. He went on to say that everyone welcomed him in and he was not made to feel unwanted based on his skin color. He said he had been to other churches where it was clear that he wasn't wanted because he is black. We lived in a town that was 99% white.

My white neighbor bragged to my parents that he got up and walked out of the church when the black man sat down beside him in the pew.

I am telling this story because you got a lot of thumbs down, so I am guessing that people dont see this sort of thing happen very often. However racism is still very much alive in some parts of the country.

This situation exists only because of ignorance. Racism will die out, but its going to take time.

The church i attend has 46 different nationalities and people of many different ethnic and racial groups, however i have attended churches that are almost exclusively white or black. I think the reasons for this vary from one place to another, and it is not always because of racism.

Sometimes it is just because there are no black people in a certain town, so the church there is all white.

In places like South Africa during Apartheid, or in 50's America when there was a lot of racism, perhaps even in Britain of the
Enoch Powell era, then racism may have been a major reason for this. Although in theory Christians follow the Bible, they are only human and often follow the prevailing culture they are in instead of the Bible.

However, even if there was no racism, there would still be racially homogeneous churches, because race is closely linked to culture, and culture causes differences in opinion and likes and dislikes. Black and White chuches differ over such things as the style of music they use, the style of delivery and content of their sermons, audience participation, the time and length of their church services, the kind of food they serve, the temperature and ventilation in the church building, etc, so people who like one type of church culture tend to go to the church where they feel comfortable, and the result is mainly black and mainly white churches.

As globalisation progresses and culture and race become not so closely linked (like if there are more White people who take on Black culture and vice versa) then such churches will become more racially mixed, though they will still be culturally homogeneous.

In Galatians 3:28, it is written that in Christ there is not Jew nor Greek, Slave nor Free, Male nor Female.

In Genesis 1:26 & 27, it is written that God made man in His image, Male and Female.

I deduce that race should make no difference, and cannot imagine attending a congregation with an exclusive rule about which racial groups should be members. On the other hand, I have attended many small groups and congregations over the years whose membership consisted predominantly of black or white or (other ethnic group) of believers, not by rule, but because that is the way it just happened to be. I was at times in the majoprity, and at other times in the minority. I never felt like I was not welcome for this reason. This is not biblical. If you are ever told to leave due to race, find a different church- not because of race, but because they are in error.

When Peter was first led to minister alongside gentile believers, that set the precedent for NOT having any kind of forced racial division.

I agree with you. Just this last Sunday we had a Darkie come into our nice clean Church. At first I thought "he should clean after Church not before!"

Actually, when you all calm down and quit reporting me. This nice gentelman came to service and we had a couple of short chats and during service meet and greet I went back over and made sure he was welcome again. I even hugged him though I am not sure he was expecting that! After Church we had a luncheon and I made sure he knew he was invited. Afterwards I was wrangling my children and did not get to visit anymore. I hope he comes back so I can get to know him. (If this sound boastful that is fine as I am not expecting rewards for treating someone human, especially when they just happen to be one.)

But, to answer your question birds of a feather flock together and it can be quite sad and a little dangerous if you are a duck!

They dont, though many blacks like their own churches. No Churches (except for a few white supremist churches in the south) prohibit any race from joining

Different strokes for different folks in our earthly style of worship ! One thing you can be sure of about a True Christians` belief is there is no racism ! The only color we are interested in as Christians is the "RED " Blood Jesus shed for us on Calvary ! There is no rasism in The Blood of Jesus !! What does The King James Holy Bible say about "race" ? The Bible says` in Acts 17 : 26 that God has " made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth ".

I think that you are being unfair. I have seen all races in churches at different times. What will you say about them? And then there are black neighborhoods, and white neighborhoods, are you saying that society doesn't segreegate itself?

Now I am not saying that there are not any racists in church, I am just saying that a lot of times it isn't what you are inferring.

I belong to a Lutheran church and we have all races in our congregation and all are active on the boards of the church.

So what is your question again?

It's called Freedom to choose which church you want to belong to. It's only racist if people of a certian race are excluded.
