My advice is as follows:

Anytime you get a ticket, set a court date and then cancel the court date. The first court date is when the cop will definitely show up. If you can reschedule twice, there's no way he's showing up! Most of the time you can only reschedule once. I work with a woman that has done this twice in the past 6 months and they got dismissed both times.

Also, lets say that doesn't work, you can plea bargain and get deferred adjudication to keep it from going any further in court. I did 15 hrs of community service for a ticket, never went on my record. Then again, I also paid $370 for a ticket (going 20+ over the speed limit) one time, too and my insurance never found out about it. So, that's how much your ticket will probably be if you outright pay it. There are a lot of options for you, though.

Depends on the state. Go to your local state's judicial website and search for the "compendium of scheduled fines"

If that doesn't work, search for it on yahoo with your state's name. It will give a list of what the fines are for violations. Look up speeding in 55 zone and see what the fine is. (you might have to add the court cost on it but it will be shown on the compendium as well). Should be pretty easy from there.

Without knowing the jurisdiction it is impossible for anybody to give you accurate information. I can say that you would not go to jail in California, and that a license suspension, though a possibiity (as it is for any ticket), would not be definite.

ADD: By the way, there is also no such thing as "cancelling a court date" in California.

You can technically go to jail for anything more than 20mph over the speedlimit. It is more than just "speeding".

You may be able to arrange with the prosecuter to plead guilty to speeding of a lower speed, such as 74mph, and take the fine for that.

good luck.
