The problem is second hand smoke coming into my apartment from hallway and neighbouring apartments. Moved in Nov. 29, 2006. Live in a "supportive housing" building, for people with mental illness. Landload is condesending and dismissive. Second hand smoke is causing me physical illness as well as emotional distress. Have exhasted my avenues. Considering legal action. Really at the end of my rope. This has thrown me into a severe depression. Does anyone have any ideas? Have you experienced this problem? Thanks for your help.

As a landlord of over 20 yrs I can tell you that there is absolutely nothing you or your landlord can do . Smoking is legal. You may want to consider moving to smoke free housing. Otherwise I would suggest asking the landlord if maintanence could weather seal your apartment to lessen the smoke and smell.

Quit whining and move. You should have been able to smell the smoke prior to you moving in. How can second hand smoke cause "severe depression?" Good Luck!!!

Oh, you poor, poor thing. Poor baby. If you can't take the smoke then MOVE OUT. It's a free country and people are allowed to smoke in their own homes. All you "non-smokers" are all alike trying to take away our freedoms because your worried about your precious "health problems". Boo hoo. Get over it. Eat more vegetables and your physical "illness" will go away.

You can try talking to them. Complain to the landlord. I like the other suggestion of insulating the floor. That's really a hard one unless there's no smoking in the building

You better look for a new place to live. It is perfectly within the law for tenants to smoke in their own apartments.

It HAD to have smelled like cigarettes when you checked it out before you moved in. Why did you even take it?

Find another place.

Sue. The way things are going against smokers nowadays, you'd win. No doubt.
