Forrestfield in WA wanted a local bank branch, and none of the big 5 were interested. Bendigo Bank were willing to set up a community bank.
There aren't as many branches, so they can be a bit inconvenient. But they are OPENING branches, not closing them. That's got to be a good sign.

I currently have a home loan, savings account and everyday account with another bank (also one of the 'Big Five'). My husband has an account with the Bendigo Bank. Their fees are much less and the service is great, I will be changing all of my accounts to Bendigo very soon!

I've heard great reports about them.
I'm with the comm bank and they don't charge me fees. Go in and talk to the bank manager - these fees are optional, they just don't tell you that.
