Here's an analogy I like to use.

I once broke up with a guy who was nice, but not for me, by telling him we were like pickles and cheesecake. Nothing wrong with either one of those, but they don't go together.

But cheesecake and cheescake is redundant. Cheesecake needs coffee or strawberries or chocolate, not more cheesecake. I've had relationships end because we were too much alike.

Or, imagine living in a house that is painted and furnished and decorated all in the same shade of green. Wouldn't you want other colors in there that are not green, but go with green?

In some areas it's better to match, and in others it's better to blend.

In my opinion, it might work, but it might not last. Know what I mean? You'd always be talking about other things and the one listening wouldn't be interested because they're just not into things like that. It's like a geek and a beauty pageant queen. "There's this really cool phone out with all sorts of new high tech stuff!" "I like this make up, it makes my face look smoother..."
You see where I'm going with this?
Having something in common will usually help a LOT. My boyfriend and I have quite a bit in common and I think it really helps us a lot. We've been together for a year, so we must be doing something right, right?

Best wishes.

If you get along and care for one another, I think that is something you can base a relationship off of.
