probably because you're american or canadian or some other country that prohibits drinking until 21.
it's a case of the "forbidden fruit" complex... get your hands on it and get blitzed.
france and italy, little people are served wine with their meals from relatively young ages, have a different attitude towards alcohol and tend to have much less binge drinking, which sounds might be your case last night.

Usually, people who do things in excess aren't completely happy in life. Sometimes it is just inexperience or plain out going to fast. Slow down, taste the drink. Figure out why you are drinking...to celebrate, to deal with stress, etc.

Because you were probably in a social setting having a great time and after about your 4th or 5th drink your tounge went numb and you could drink way more with out tasting it. :)

Once you get a certain amount of hangovers you will slow down. I pretty much stopped getting drunk when I realized although I had a great time, it wasn't worth the hangover.
I was in my early forties when I finally realized this.

your judgement was impared, so you thought you could keep going. u might have been caught up in the moment having a good time/whatever the reason you were drinking that you got carried away.
