I'm no longer a JW, but it would be my guess that if any of these answerers went to their elders and asked if they were allowed to "count time" on YA, they would most likely be advised not to be on here in the first place.
Achtung, let's be honest. The purpose of turning in time is to put the 'publishers' under compulsion. Without the incentive of wanting to have enough "hours" to pass muster, many Witnesses would reduce the time spent in service.
I always found it interesting that JW's are always saying "we don't (insert harmless activity) because Jesus didn't tell us to do that and the apostles didn't do that.
Yet they have no problem tediously keeping up with their hours and minutes that they can "count" so that brothers can spend countless hours crunching numbers and compiling reports' it's as much like a sales program as it is a religion.
Not to mention the fact that Jesus didn't do it, the apostles didn't, and the whole idea is contrary to the spirit of spreading the gospel in the first century.

Why not? I don't always count all of it, it depends on the answers I give, I take my answers from the Bible and the time you use looking up Scriptures is also countable, I'm conservative about it. If your giving good sound answers based on Jehovah's word I find it no different than informal witnessing, or writing letters to someone. If I can help just one person to find the truth it will be worth it, the people here are no different than those I have run into in person, whether at a door on the street or at work. Would not Jehovah and Jesus want you to use every possible avenue to reach people?

Yes and no. I am often conflicted on whether or not as many times I answer and find the person I answer is not REALLY wanting an answer but just wanting to bash. I am a bit of a shutin due to health. Depending on the amount of time I spend on Y!A and the kind of questions I am answering, yes we do answer non religous queries, I sometimes count time. I try to limit it to one hour as with all the typing I know I spend at least 10 times that much a month.

In my personal circumstances right now, no way would I ever count this time - but if I were a shut in, I might. None of us care how the other counts their time. Their are guidelines printed for us on how to count our time and it's up to the individual how strict we are about it etc. We don't compare with each other (I never tell others specifically what I put in each month - it's between me and Jehovah and whichever of my elder body reads my monthly report) and just because I don't doesn't mean we're "not allowed". It's just my personal decision not to.

Each individual among Jehovah's Witnesses is expected to conscientiously report the time he spends in the public ministry each month. These reports help overseers determine how best to focus future training, and to assign and reassign human resources.
No Witness could tell another precisely what "time" he could or couldn't report.

of course we do not count the time, but if people are asking question about us, we want people to know what kind of people we are. we do count the time when we have a bible study with someone who wants to know about Jehovah and Jesus Christ, when we use the phone or when we talk with someone who we met shopping or getting gas.

no we cannot, but still we want people to know the hope from the Bible whether we count time or not. We can only count time when going door-to-door, telephone witnessing, street work, or conducting Bible studies. Thanks for asking & have a lovely evening.
