how would you start a convo with a guy you never talked to before... but do give eachother attention-- possibly playing "hard to get" (not looking at eachother)

First, just smile at him when he looks your way. You never know, he might smile back... After a while start saying hi to him and gradually pick up conversation. If you lose the conversation because he's shy, just ask how hes doing or what he enjoys doing, and stuff like that. When you pass him the halls or you walk past him when he's sitting just stare and smile :P After a while you should have him :) Hopefully Well good luck! I'm sorry if i didn't really help you :(

Depends on where you are. If I am interested, I just walk right up and introduce myself. It's good to have a topic of discussion ready. I don't believe in playing hard to get. Life is too short. You see something or someone you want, you go after it.
