Guests include a few architects - so art and design enhanced environment a plus. Expecting about 15 guests. Most of us are coming in from other cities. Thanks.

Is money an issue?
Assuming it is not, try the Rainbow Room, in Roc Center.
You can also try any of the restaurants in Roc Center. I say this because Rockefeller Center is a beautiful example of Art Deco archetecture, and all the facilities reflect this. The UN also has several nice catering halls, ranging in size from a capacity of 20 to a capacity of 450. UN is archetecturally amazing, the furniture was designed by Kandinsky, and has the a gorgeous view of the river, especially at night.
The museum of Natural history has a small banquet facility called the turret, but it might be a bit large for your needs (40 people, the other banquet facilities there are way too large)
In Upper Manhattan, close to 190th and Fort Washington Avenue is the New Leaf Cafe, which is on the grounds of The Cloisters, a 15th century French monastary that was rebuilt here in NYC, stone by stone.
All of these locations are expensive, especially if you plan to have them catered. I have worked in all (as a waiter) but the New Leaf Cafe.
If you have any more questions, I can tell you a lot more venues after I give it some thought. Oh....
how about the Rubin Museum, on W. 17th Street. Brand new facility.

If you want to try something a little different (but not a lot different) consider the Tapas Lounge, located at 59th Street and 1st Avenue. It has a great atmosphere, and generally the table orders about 2 tapas per person, but it becomes a big sharing experience and can be a lot of fun. The Sangria is great, too.

If it's a large party and you need something that fits all (or most) tastes, Carmine's is a staple. It's Italian food, family style, but the wait can be brutal. Get reservations.

Otherwise, just go for a nice steakhouse. Good luck.

Cafe Boulud ~ UES

Fabulous food! Makes a great evening. The room has a pretty layout to it, but I would think when an architect is out, he or she would not want to be focusing or discussing work? My girlfriend is an architect and when we get together, I don't talk about my work and she certainly does'nt talk about hers.

Just a quick comment.

Happy Birthday!

I don't have a particular suggestion since I don't know where you are, but I would check renting an art gallery.
