In my experience they are like any other government civilian employee. Some are good nice people, but most just want there pay and benefits and could care less about military members.

Just like any other job, military or civilian, there is going to be good and bad apples. I used to work for the Department of Defense and for the record, you do have to be an American citizen and have a background check before being hired. They are probably putting down the armed forces because they are feeling a bit intimidated. Not to sound stereotypical, but most of the DOD coworkers I had were middle aged and pleasantly plump or more. They seemed to be awed by all the physical training the Marines did, but were to lazy to do it themselves. So a couple of them belittled the Marines to make themselves feel better.

My brother-in-law is a civilian guard at a military base. Besides being one of the nicest people I know, he would NEVER disrespect a soldier. NEVER. EVER. He knows he's there to allow our soldiers to be doing more important work, and takes his job very seriously.

Well they know they arent bound by the rules the servicemen must adhere to, and some flaunt it, I do beleive that a mandatory background check and U.S. citizenship should be prerequisites though.

For the most part, i love them. they are usualy much friendlier since they dont have that whole military mentality. and at the chow hall, they usualy cook better food since they care more about their jobs then their military counterparts. overall, i am pretty happy with them.
