When Seeing Eye dogs are trained, they are made sure of that they can perform well. My daughters friend is blind. She has a seeing eye dog. The dog is so well trained, that not even a biscut can distract the dog, when it is working. The dog always behaves. Cute Dog Too!
Hope I helped.

People who have guide dogs are the ones who tell the dogs where to go. The dog does not memorize routes or lead his/her owner to places. The owner memorizes the routes and tells the dog where to take them. People who are blind are very aware of where they are, and their dogs are trained to keep them out of harm's way.

The purpose of a guide dog is mostly safety. The person who is blind instructs the dog to go forward, left, right, stop, etc. The dog, in return, will obey its owner and stop to alert the owner of any possible dangers. For example, guide dogs will stop at street corners without the owner's command. Then, the owner tells the dog whether to turn or continue going straight after the owner determines (by listening to traffic) it is safe to do so. If there is an obstacle in the path, say a tree branch or a discarded backpack, the dog will guide his/her owner around the obstacle or the dog will stop and wait for instruction from the owner to turn or go around. (Sometimes the owner needs to reach out a hand to determine what may have caused the dog to stop.) No matter how well-trained these guide dogs are, they do not control the free-will of the owner who uses the dog.

The dogs are trained very well, and the person gets very serious training with the dog. There has to be a bond and a trust between dog and master. Not all dogs that are trained get to be a seeing eye dog. Some do not make the grade and get to go back with the family that does the preliminary training if they want them. My niece got her dog back, as he was too distracted by other dogs,so he didn't make it, they were happy to get him back though, even though they wished he would of been able to help someone through life.

we have an office for Leader Dogs for the Blind in our neighborhood, and you should see how well they train them. one of the scariest things to watch is when they teach the dogs not to walk in front of a moving car. it scared me the first time i saw it, because i didn't know what was going on and thought that someone was trying to run over a guy walking his dog. the handler would walk the dog down the sidewalk up to a driveway, and another handler in an SUV would come squealing out of the parking lot just as they started crossing the driveway.

leader dogs are HIGHLY trained, and not all of them make the cut.

The dogs are VERY well trained. My aunt works for a training facility that trains seeing eye dogs and she has two dogs that she rescued because they failed their seeing-eye-dog test. The only reason her dogs failed is because they are too friendly, and there is a chance that they would walk up to someone. They are VERY strict about the dogs they "graduate" from the "dog school" they have to go to.

The dogs are trained to not do that. They train the dogs to stop when they get to a street and wait until it is safe to cross.

These dogs are trained to go only into the streets when there are no cars or all of the cars have stopped.

the dogs are trained before they are given to the people, and the person trains with the dog as well.
