How do I make MS Word my default for .doc files. It always opens up in wordpad and I've looked everywhere. Thanks.

i have already done the "always use this" option because it bugged me, but i noticed after i did it it was wordpad. if go in and right click a file i can open it but don't have the "always open" option anymore.

Go to one of your folders (Any of your folders should work). Go to the "Tools" menu, and select "Folder options". Go to the "File types" tab, and scroll through the list for .doc files. Click the "change" button and select MS Word. And that should do it.

Try this: right click a .doc file and choose "open with" then pick Word. At the bottom of that box there is a checkbox that says something like "use this program for all similar files"
That should make the change you are looking for

You can restore MS default for .doc. files
• right click any *.doc file you have
• goto 'open with' in the context menu that has appeared
• choose 'choose program'
• select 'Microsoft word' from the list
• tick 'always use the selected program to open this kind of file'
• click 'ok'
*.doc files will now open in microsoft word.

Right click on any .doc file, choose Open Program then Select Program. Highlight Microsoft Word and also check the box on the bottom of that page that says "Always use this program to open files of this type."

In Windows Explorer (where you see a list of files, including one of your .doc file), right-click. That will bring up a submenu. Choose "Open With". Then Choose Program. You wil lhave the option to choose the program that you want to "associate" with this file. Don't forget to click th ebox that says "Always use this program to open the selected file".

from the menu, click on "Help"
pick "Detect and Repair..." option
(you may be asked for the Microsoft Office installation CD)
restart your computer or log-off and then log-on again.
