The SAS. Why do people say it depends on where there fighting and all that. By being special forces it doesnt matter where your fighting because your expected to do the job. Its always americans who come up with this excuse so thats why the SAS get my vote. The SAS is also better than the SBS but not much. When do we need to launch a counter terrorist operation on water at the moment and who has a navy we would even waste our time on?

A quote about the SAS from the 1st gulf war from General Norman Schwarzkopf

totally outstanding performance...
... the only force qualified for this critical mission was the SAS...
... briefed the US forces...
... in the highest traditions of military service...

The Iraqis thought they were fighting over 10000 men when in fact there were 300 SAS soldiers 25 of which were reserves

Each has its strengths and weaknesses. Of the two the SEALs are the more versatile in terms of missions and operating theaters. The SEALs also just flat out have better support equipment. The SAS operates on a larger command structure and can undertake operations of a larger scale then the SEALs can while the smaller unit structure of the SEALs makes them a more portable force. Both use live rounds in training (as do most SO elite units the world over) and both are comprised of veteran troops that have already undergone their own version of basic training before they reach the point of training for these units. The SAS has a longer history and many of the counter-insurgency techniques used by modern militaries were pioneered by the British. The SAS has suffered criticism in the past for being too predictable and too "stuck in their ways" to embrace new methodologies however so just because a unit has a long service life doesn't mean it is the best. While the SEALs have been criticized for a "hot dog" approach that leads to unnecessary casualties.

If I had to vote then I would place my money on the SBS. These can be called the British equivalent to the SEALs but that would be doing them a great disservice. They are composed entirely of veteran volunteers from the Royal Marine Commandos, a force that already has a longer and tougher boot camp then either the British regular army or the navy (come on, my four year old can pass the navy "boot") and has an even longer history of conflict and innovation. The RMC in its entirety would be classified as an "elite" unit in the US Military akin to Army Rangers but with more punch. The SBS training incorporates everything that is in the SAS training regimes plus maritime and amphibious operations. The saying is that an SBS Marine can do everything that an SAS trooper can do plus they can walk on water. The most telling thing, however, is that the details of SBS operations are more closely guarded then the SAS. When talking SO units it is what you don't know about that is more important then what you do.

The Navy Seals are the Best Warriors. Even though all branches of the Military have their own personal special force the Navy is by far the Hardest and Longest out of all other in and out of this country.
The Navy seals are the only Branch that NOW uses live Ammunition during Training. I DO NOT Mean the Live ammunition that is fired next to you or over your heads like in the Marine corp I mean Actual Rounds being fired at one another.

I watched a whole documentary on the Seals and for their first 6 months, that is their basic entry training and only 10 perfecent I think will make it through that and that is after their military initial boot camp and training. Then after those 6 months they have about another year of hard core training.

The seals will get dropped off in different parts for 1 week by themselves, whether it be in a snowy mountain or Jungle and they are told to be met at a certain location at a certain time. Its life or death all the time for those Elite Guys.
They will also go on live Active missions if possible. I dont know everything about Seals because I'm not one of the Elite, Its just what I have read and watched on Documentory's

Though I am in No way Degrading the Capabilities of The SAS or any other Elite force, From what I have read and watched and studied gives you my answer. Realise that any of these other Elite forces such as the SAS /British special forces are highly trained as well. This is what these guys do, they are all no jokes when it comes down to getting the jobs done.
I feel that a Seal or His Team could get the job done more Efficiant, But this is my Oppinion. I do know though that Atleast our country states the Seals is the hardest and Tuffest Force out there, but Im sure SAS/British special forces would say the same. :)
They are all Elite.

sas has more experience since they were around during world war 1 but their group was called something else
but seals are better trained in weapons and explosives. the sas are the best in navigation. and they are not continually excellent
they make mistakes as well as the seals
neither group is perfect
they keep the mistakes underwraps as to not let anyone know of their involvement in that particular event or mission

As a former US Army Ranger, I have fought and trained with SAS and Navy SEALs so to compare the two I made a chart:

Hardship of Training: SAS

Difficulty of Training: Navy SEALs

Skill in Weapons and Explosives: Navy SEALs

Navigation and Logistics Skill: SAS

Expierence: SAS

So, I think SAS clearly wins this debate but it is almost immposible to say who is BETTER than the other unless the US and UK went to war (Hopefully that never happens).

Hands down without a doubt it would be the SAS
Our version of SEAL is the SBS who are a very close relative to the SAS.

I believe your version of the SAS is Delta allthough it is all very confusing in America with the sheer amount of regiments and stuff.

SAS = brain
SEAL= brawn
SEAL's alway have more funding firepower resources at their free disposal but not quality trainig compared to their british counterparts
while SAS are the best trained to perfection and precision
funding is quite good, fire power 75% of american counterparts and the resources limited .

Any elite military force like this, SAS, SEALS, DELTA are all fine troops, possibly the finest, most motivated and trained in their respective services.

The SAS is very impressive.
