Baptist trace their history to the early 17th century, when they broke from the Anglican Church.
Protestants trace their history to the 16th century reformation of Martin Luther.
Both are similar in that the Anglican and Lutheran Churchs broke from the Roman Catholic Church.

Any organized religion other than the Orthodox/Catholic church "protest" the presence of the Roman catholic church, at least that is the way is was during the reformation....L.D.S. are considered by the vast majority (96%) of organized religion to not be Christian...flat fact, they are a cult.
