Hi, this is very important, I hope you can help me! I'm a student at the University of Venice and I'd like to come to UK with Erasmus (maybe some of you don't know Erasmus programme.. anyway: I'd like to come to the UK for study).
I have to choose among 4 Universities, that is to say:
Nottingham-
Bristol -
Leeds or
Aberdeen.
Now: I'm talking especially to those people who live in one of these towns.
What I'd like to know from you is how expensive these towns are.
Maybe you've never been to Italy, so I must tell you that for us England is extremely expensive. I really don't know what is like to live in England, nor in Scotland. I really don't know a thing about your life! That's why I want to come there! I have studied your language for 10 years, so..it's time to know you closely, isn't it? :)
If you could give me information also about the Universities in each of these towns, I would be eternally grateful. Just need advice!
So, I'm looking forward to your answers!! THANK YOU!
bye

Aberdeen has a reputation for being expensive (all that oil money) It is also very cold! Leeds is a bustling city which is nowadys a growing financial services centre - so that too is becoming more expensive. I think it fair to say that Leeds is rather an ugly city, with a lot of poor housing, factories etc. Bristol is a nice city (though it has a lot of very bad traffic jams and public transport is poor). It was once the second most important city in England - and the wealth of fine buildings shows this. Sadly it was badly damaged in the war and some of the city centre is rather modern and ugly. I rather like Nottingham. It is a large industrial city - but it is quite spacious and has good transport. I think I would concentrate on Bristol or Nottingham personally.

They are all fun cities in their own way, and could all be seen as expensive, although Aberdeen possibly less so. If you would want to meet other Italians, they are everywhere! It's difficult to really say which you would prefer. Leeds is big and fashionable at the moment, maybe a little like Milan? Aberdeen is a long way north, but is close to the beautiful mountains, and the people there are fun (and speak strangely), and Bristol and Nottingham I don't know so well, but I have had fun in each of them. Good luck! Ciao bella, from a third-generation Italian :o)

Hi, I live in London at the moment which is really expensive! You must at least visit while you are here.... , but that is for another time. I have travelled the Uk extensively for many years and am familiar with the towns/cities on your list.
Nottingham is probably going to be the cheapest option for you. It is an upbeat place with good theatre and nightlife and the locals are generally easy to get on with.
Aberdeen will probably be slightly cheaper for living than Nottingham but is further to travel so I would think that overall that puts it in second place for cheapness. I know less about the individual Town culture of Aberdeen but they are Scots so you should do fine, also as it's north of the border they drink proper beer and know how to enjoy themselves and to entertain!
Leeds More expensive still - nothing I can think of to recommend it to you.
Bristol is a bit like London squeezed down into half it's size. Interesting Vibrant Cosmopolitan,
very rough elements in certain parts and nearly as expensive as the capital for anywhere decent!
I would avoid it.

I hasten to point out that these are purely my own opinions, and the fact that I don't reccomend somewhere for you, does not mean that it is impossible for you to visit and enjoy.

hi
I live in Bristol and the cost of living here is probably not much different to anywhere else in the UK. As with most city's there are cheaper parts to live in but if you wanted to live within walking distance to the university it would be quite expensive but if you were to live 15 minutes away by bus the cost would be much cheaper. this is probably the same in most cities. here is a link for a website about Bristol http://visitbristol.co.uk/
Bristol is a great place to live and there is a lot of redevelopment going on at the moment. There are lots of different races living in the city and i believe quite a large Italian community in the Clifton area of Bristol. Good luck with your decision and I hope you enjoy the UK

Avoid Bristol, as hard as they try it is a horrible city! I'm not sure how expensive it is in comparison to the other places but probably, being in the South, it isn't that cheap!

Hope you enjoy the UK when you get here!

All places in the UK will be expensive, usually the further up north the places are the cheaper they get so Aberdeen is probably your best bet.
