No...they don't and for good reasons. They don't give good advice when they sell them.

Macaws are awesome. And with them comes an awesome responsibility to earn their trust and be worthy of their love and adoration for every day of their 100 year lifespan.

If you want a macaw, my first suggestion (which is exactly what I did and what I tell people who see mine and instantly want one...) is research the heck out of the species. Figure out which species of Macaw appeals to you and then ask yourself WHY that particular species appeals to you.

Hyacinth Macaws are the biggest macaw. They are gentle giants, with great big hearts to go along with their great big bodies. They are truly the most magnificent of all the macaws. Their price tag is usually right around 13,000.00 in the US.

Greenwing Macaws are the next step down from Hyacinth's. Greenwings are gentle and loving by nature, learn very quickly and speak well. I have a baby greenwing myself. Her name is Katie. These guys are known for being one of the more "laid back" species of macaw.

Blue and Golds are known for being a little more dominant and having great personalities. Some of the funniest macaws I know are blue and golds.

Military Macaws are one of the smaller variety of macaws, and are known for being nippy and dominant. I also have a Military named Rio. Militaries ROCK. But, I'm the type who likes my bird to have an attitude of his own. I feel it makes things more interesting and I feel like it's a 50/50 relationship. We earn each others trust, and he challenges me every bit as much as I challenge him.

Whatever you decide, go with a reputable breeder who hand feeds. If you can't see proof of the hand feeding, I'd steer clear if you're not an experienced large parrot guru.

There will be people who tell you not to get a large parrot if you've never had one. If we all followed that train of thought, none of us would ever own one of these magnificent animals. What I do urge you to do is to seriously look into your species and study it for a few months. If after reading everything you can get your hands on, you still want one...give Pruess Pets a call in Lansing Michigan. That's where I get my birds. It IS a pet store. However, I know the owner and I know the breeders she gets her birds from. The birds get one on one attention every single day, and the staff is awesome. I go and work with those birds daily as well, and there's a lot of other large parrot owners who do the same. Debbie is the gal that owns the place, and she can give you the best information, prices and help in obtaining your healthy, loveable macaw.

I do know that there's a greenwing there now that's about a month younger than Katie, our Greenwing. They come from the same breeder, but not the same clutch. That baby would be ready to go in about 2 months. Debbie has a great layaway plan and you wouldn't have to pay in full until the baby is ready to come home. The baby hasn't been DNA sexed yet, but those results will probably be back in about a week or so.

Hi, Petco might have them if they had them before they agreed to stop selling larger parrots, They do not get in new ones.

If you are realy looking to get a very tame bird a pet shop is usaly not the best place to get them. In some areas the people working there don't know much about Parrots. And in many cases the bird get nasty if they are in the shop to long.

I suggest buying from a breeder that breeds macaws and hand feeds. I got my amazon from www.friendlyparrots.com
Call them at 718-928-5345 They have amazing birds . They acctulay have a bunch of babies on there site right now.

Because of complaints by conciencious bird owners, Petco finally agreed to stop selling large parrots (macaws and cockatoos.) Your best bet is a breeder- search the internet or parrot magazines for one in your area. HOWEVER, there are several different kinds of macaws. The wording of your question "...these Macaw parrots..." leads me to believe that you don't know much about them. Macaws are VERY difficult to care for in terms of parrots, have long life spans (60+ years) specific housing requiements, a high intelligence (read this as many behavior problems including biting, LOUD SCREAMING, feather plucking, etc.) and the need for a varied diet. I suggest that you do some reading and talk to macaw owners before deciding to adopt one.

Never buy any pet from Petco! Go to a good breeder of macaws to find a quality one.

the most expensive bird i've seen them sell is the parrotlet for $450 $599

of course your local breeder will sell at 100-300 so why bother with retail with so many breeders out there!!! look up your local bird show our last one in san jose had a blue and gold macaw with cage for $600.00, he was older though maybe thats why so inexpensive as far as macaws go good luck
birdmart.com is the site

go to a breeder. Macaws that have been banged at and stared at for months on end don't sound like they would make an easy integration. You'll also be helping to get these wild animals out of pet stores by not funding them.

I agree with ZIZ. If you're going to spend that kind of money go to a pet shop or breeder that specializes in Parrots.

Sorry, but I might be mistaken -- aren't those illegal now to sell in the USA? I might be wrong, just remember hearing something about that.
