I just got home and there was a note from our apartment leasing office saying that this is a first complaint notice of noise. Before, the neighbors said they could hear our bed squeak and hear constant feet-we have two small pugs! any suggestions? we have watched our bedroom noise-should we go talk to the people below us?

I don't think feet noise or bed squeaking are legitimate complaints....next thing they will complain that you're breathing too loud.

Talking to your neighbors and apologizing for the bedroom noise should go far towards soothing tempers. Heck, you could even thank them for mentioning it since you don't want the whole world to know what you are up to.

This would also give you a chance to ask about the dogs. What kind of feet are they hearing? Where? The information might help you to find a solution - maybe there is a hard floor that needs a rug. And maybe they are overreacting. At least they can't say you haven't tried to fix things.

You could also talk to someone in the leasing office and see if they have any suggestions; this can't be the first time they've dealt with stuff like this. (I'm assuming that the pugs are allowed in the complex.)

Well I live on the bottom floor, the guy up stairs was loud! He would run up and down stairs in flip flops at all hours of the night. I was like ok whatever. THEN his tv would blast, I shouldn't know he is watching the 11 o'clock news.( at night not morning) Then he would slam his cabinets and walk with boots it sounded like. Eventually he moved, so I was relieved.
The best thing to do is find a ground apt. Mean while talk to them and apologize for any noise( even if they are being nit picking) It might buy you another complaint

Try to open up a positive line of communication with them. Tell them you are trying to identify and fix the problems and need their help. Try to get everyone off the defensive.

Ask them to tell you what they are hearing and when. Ask them which times of day are more noise sensitive for them. If you can be friendly with them it will help things all around.

You might also look into transferring into a down stairs unit so that the little ones can stomp around more without problems.

You should calmly discuss the problem. However, I do think that your neighbors are being unreasonable. You seem to really be trying to control the noise level, and they should be considerate of the effort. Some things you just can't help. So good luck!

See if you can find a ground apartment available and apologize to the people beneath you and the management. Often times, a simple apology and eye to eye meeting will show them that you are nice people and they will be glad to overlook their own nitpicking.

If you ask for the ground apartment, Management will know you are sincere about not wanting to cause problems.

P.S. Oil the bed or explore other pieces of furniture...

If you think you cannot help making those noises. You have two options. Move out, or put a very thick rug under your bed that will cover from wall to wall or, and change your bed.

Go talk to them...a conversation about your sex life will no doubt be harder on them then it is you...LOL...As far as the dogs are concerned...well they chose to live in a downstairs apartment...some people have very little to do other than complain...an apology here may be your best bet...are they lonely for friends? Befriend them...kinda evil but effective.

A trapeze might help in the bedroom and little furry slippers for the pugs :)

i would probably talk to them....maybe it's just a certain time of day that the noise bothers them...if you know what and when the noise irritation is you'll be able to do something about it
