There are several reasons for this.

God did speak directly to Adam and Eve, and to Noah, and to Abraham and Sarah. I don't think he spoke directly to Joseph son of Jacob, but through dreams.

When the people of Israel heard the voice of God thunder from Mount Sinai, they begged Moses not to let God speak to them directly. They basically said, "You speak to God, and tell us what he said."

Also, according to Exodus, no person can look upon God's face and live. One can hear God's voice, but not look at his face. For most people, even hearing God's voice would be too scary. They prefer a middleman--or sometimes middlewoman--to be a go-between between God and them.

And actually, God did show up on the scene himself when he came as God the Son, Jesus of Nazareth, speaking directly to people. How did humanity react? Some listened. Some had him crucified. A modern Jewish proverb says, "If God showed up on earth, people would break his windows."

Some would argue that God also delivers his message in the Bible.

If you want to hear God, why not go into your room in private and ask him to speak to you? If you really want to hear from God, he'll speak to you. It won't likely be an audible voice, but it could be. More likely it will be an "inner voice", in your gut or in your ear.

IMHO

God does wish all people were Prophets, that way everybody would be doing what they are supposed to be doing. But being as everyone isn't and so many REBELL against him he chooses just one person to be his Prophet. That way the people will know BY FAITH and the Holy Ghost will know that the Prophet is from God.

Numbers 11:29 And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD’s people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!

Numbers 12:6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.

God also tells about his Prophets being rejected.

2 Kings 17:14 Notwithstanding they would not hear, but hardened their necks, like to the neck of their fathers, that did not believe in the LORD their God.
2 Chronicles 36:16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

So even in history it has been shown the persocution of Gods Prophets. And the best example is when Christ was on this Earth, people EVEN REJECTED HIM.

So as an old saying goes, people who DON'T LEARN from history are DOOMED to REPEAT it.

He used prophets for a variety of reasons. The nation of Israel could relate to things easier if a human was the messenger. He also did this to prove that He existed. Old Testament writes down these prophecies, and 500 years later the New Testament shows them to be fulfilled. He also used them as an early warning system. "Hey Ezekiel, go spread the word My son is coming down in a couple hundred years". It was also easier to spread the word through prophets who acted like a traveling radio from God. "Hear ye, hear ye, this is what the Lord says".

think of roughly it. Do any opportunities happen to you? in case you're writing a tale and elect to place in writing something not in the present day seen poppycock, what could you write to tell the a stable and significant tale? How could you describe activities that would desire to be known outright and with out question? could you not want authority, a depended on team of characters? could you not want a concern that brought about a gaggle of folk, imaginary or not, to instruct the reader that this is okay to settle for the tale? Writing survivable metaphysics ain't common, seem on the mess that's the indecipherable Quran!

Every time G-d has chosen to speak through a man (Moses, Daniel, Isaiah, etc), the messenger is judged instead of the message.
Try not looking at WHO is speaking so much as what is being said. THEN you can judge the message more clearly.
Also, when G-d spoke directly to the nation of Israel at Mt. Sinai, they freaked out. Exodus 20:19 records the nation of Israel telling Moses (when G-d spoke from Mt. Sinai), "You speak to us & we will listen, but don't let G-d speak to us, or we'll die". They feared G-d, but not a human. Hence, prophets!

If He had done that, by appearing to you, you would not have been here to ask this question. In His mercy He spoke through the chosen ones by inspiring them with His Spirit. But one day He came in the form of Man, born in Bethlehem as predicted, and walked among man to reveal Him. He is called The Word,
meaning He was the Word of God made audible and visible.
John 1:1-3, 14)
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:2 He was in the beginning with God.
1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Only after you and I have been born again by His Spirit and transformed by His power at His coming can we see HIm face to face.

Be thankful He did not make that appearance to you and me in our sinful nature.

If He delivered it by Himself you would be saying why didn't He send it by a series of prophets. Why didn't He just ask you how to do it.
