A condition in which persons with cognitive impairment & elderly people tend to become confused or disoriented at the end of the day. Most common with dementia, Alzheimer's type, & is seen with delirium.

Sundowning is what happens to older people with or without Alzheimer's. The individual slips back in to a child like mood (pouting, throwing a fit, not eating in general. They also loose touch with were they R or can flash back to some time in their past. This is what Sundowning is. It is very sad to see a loved one go through this. I hope this helps you. a delerium that sets in during the evening. Alzhiemers patients often suffer from it.

Found this link below. There is not a lot of info. I volunteered in a nursing home and saw it in action a few times.
